I recommend:

*Full Metal Panic
*RahXephon
*Ranma 1/2
*Vandread
*Outlaw Star

These all have a mix of action, comedy, and romance and I highly recommend both Vandread and Ranma 1/2 which are great mixes of all these genres. 8-)

Everyone seems to like Fushigi Yuugi and Ai Yori Aoshi. Personally, I find Fushigi Yuugi very repetitive and long. In the beginning it's pretty good, but then it just gets too ridiculously annoying. Ai Yori Aoshi is a bit better. But still, the main character, I think her name is Aoi, is a bit intense. She is too dependent of a character and she cries over everything.

Now, Kare Kano, that is one good anime. The end is like cut off, but it is worth watching.

For manga, my top two are Love Hina and Paradise Kiss. Try both. They're both excelent.

His and Her Circumstances seems to be the most realistic and it is outrageously funny. Also the box set is reasonably priced from Right Stuf International. :P

It's the encore that Director Anno did after Neon Genesis Evangelion
