me,I like to watch subtitled anime cause I grown used to it..I mean,yeah,sure..I wanted to see the dubbed version cause I didn't wanna read all that text at the bottom of the screen,but once I figured out,"hey,it would be MUCH better to hear a person that's more into it,than an American person just dubbing it to get paid",well..most of the time anyways =P..I like to watch somethin' that has more exciting spazophobic experiences in it ^_^ (wow that was weird) because you can get more into it..whether you know what they're ACTUALLY saying or not...just like J-Pop...to me,Ayumi Hamasaki's songs sound REALLY awsome,but that's just to me..cause I think her voice sounds really awsome,she obviously sounds like she loves her job as a J-Pop singer =D,and even though I don't know what she's saying,I still enjoy listening to her music,because her songs can sound so cool,it gives you this spazzed up feeling sometimes ya know,just to hear somethin' different..just like Megumi Hayashibara for example...she's a J-Pop singer/Anime Voice Actress,that's why I chose to watch some of the Slayers episodes in Japanese w/ subtitles,because I knew Lina's voice would sound so cool with a J-Pop singer doing the voice acting to it...which by the way,they should see if Ayu will voice act for some awsome anime,but that may not,or it may happen..who knows...but anyways,it's all about the feeling that's in the anime more than what they're saying...but that's just my opinon..

This tread is a lost cause but il try to answer the question. If you watch a dubbed Anime and love it youll prefrer the dub because you went trough the Anime listening to english voices. However it goes the vise virsa with sub. Me I prefer dub, because thats how I started out watching Anime.

When I started out watching and collecting animes, I always got the dubs, but when I finally watched one in sub (Cardcaptor Sakura was my first Sub), I regreted buying all my previous anime in dub.

I'm not exactly anti-english, I'm just tired of the lack of spirit and effort that most americans give to making an anime (or any other foriegn material) at least as good as the original. (I'm also a little annoyed by how americans always think they can make anything better than the original. This shows up in a bunch of Book-to-Movies and Game-to-Movies too) But they are getting better. It'll just be a little longer before we hear a sudden break-through in all english dubbed voice acting. Then they'll all sound great. But for now, more than half of the english dubs are sounding at least good. So that's cool. And they weren't all too bad in the past. I think that most of the english voice acting in animes like Ruin Explorers and Socerer Hunters was Ok. And they're kinda old. Ok, maybe only 4 or 5 years, but still.

And what about name changing? This can get pretty bad too. Let me show a small list of name changes from the Japanese Cardcaptor Sakura to the american Cardcaptors.

Japanese / American

Sakura Kinamoto / Sakura Avalon
Tomoyo Daidouji / Madison Taylors
Shaoran Li / Li Shaoran
Yuki / Julian

Clow Cards (Pronouced like "Glow") / Clow Cards (Pronounced like "Cow")

It's kind of weird why you would want to change the names so bad. This is also true for Sailor Moon. Even non-prime time animes do this. Like, Legend of Crystania The Motion Picture. Ok, I guess companies wanna take Dubbing a step further than just simply translating and re-recording. But do they really have to amercanize the names? Can't they get a little more creative? The pronounciation also gets weird. Sakura in Japanese is like, "Sah - Koo - Ra". In american, it becomes "Sa - Cure - Uh". Not that it's bad, but just weird, I guess. Oh uh, nevermind.

Maybe we should try to look at this with this idea also: If you knew both English and Japanese languages fully, which language would you watch your animes in? Cause with DVDs, you can turn off the subtitles, so they're not so distracting.

That was a jokey petition, apparently. As for Sakura, I think the proper Japanese pronunciation is Sock-Rah. It's one of those words or names where the "u" is not pronounced.

I would hope that this petition is a joke. Just don't forget that there are a few losers out there who would like to have things like Anime banned. They're so horrible!

No, it's Sah - Koo - Rah. Even when it's said at its fastest, it still has 3 syllables. It does sound like Sock-Rah, but it's more of a Sock-a-Rah. A very quick "a", indeed. Here's some kanji showing the 3 symbols used in Sakura's Japanese name.

All anime fans who wanna take their anime experience to the max should learn Japanese! We all might as well live in Japan too! Then we could tell all our friends in America about the cool animes that we're watching right now, and that they're gonna have to wait a while for. I got some Learn Japanese cassette tape thing, 10 tapes. Or is it 12? Anyways, you can find things like this in stores, so look for it! Best Buy, or maybe even Target, might have them.
