American cartoon don't "suck."
IF you think otherwise, than you're not a patriot. and if you're not a patriot, you should be shot.

Japanese anime, it's just so much more evolved than American animated shows in terms of visuals and philosophy and the human mind
but in terms of comedy, Japanese anime is lagging when compared to Americans shows like Family Guy (which they took off the air cause it was owning The Simpsons!! I SAID IT!!) I also believe Southpark is funny as hell because it's like The Simpsons in all the references that it makes to either historical events or documents and because of the way it's NOT targeted towards 'kids' although kids see it, it typically will take a more developed mind to understand all the humor and references used in Southpark... not that it's high-brow, but it's not exactly Rugrats in it's symplicity.
The Dialogue in shows like Family Guy and Southpark are what really get me hooked, i like watching shows where people talk normally, not saying things like 'OH MY GOSH SUPERMAN! LOOK OUT! IF YOU DON'T STOP DR. WHATEVER HE WILL INITIATE HIS EVIL PLAN AND DOOM THE EARTH AND IT'S INHABITANTS TO AN ETERNITY OF PERILE!' (not an actual quote, in fact i pulled that out of my ass...). I'd rather hear 'screw you guys'
people have already named other great shows, the original Batman series, which my brother is collecting, woot!, we have 3 volumes so far.. no idea how many there are though
but i'm NOT saying that japanese anime

but i'm NOT saying Japanese anime is not funny, but it doesn't have the large amount of funny that american shows, even physical comedy that old shows (Tom and Jerry is my old time fav) have. shows that address social issues and still make you wanna die laughing like Southpark and Family Guy.

Take the following American cartoons:
Exo Squad
Gargoyles
Transformers (seasons 1 and 3, anyway... let's pretend S2 doesn't exist)
Rocko's Modern Life
Batman anything
Sonic the Hedgehog (the good version that aired on Saturday mornings, not that disgusting "New Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Friends Show" bullshit)
And compare them to the best of Anime. While Inu Yasha and Escaflowne do have their moments, they get their asses handed to them on a silver platter by the likes of Gargoyles and Exo Squad. Also, our Sonic the Hedgehog pwnz Sonic X like you wouldn't believe (Steve Urkel is the man), and Transformers Armada just can't hold up to the original series (though the homages to TFTM in the Unicron Battles were appreciated).
Oh, and that's not counting animated movies. Titan A.E. makes Spirited Away look like Pokemon. Actually, Spirited Away looks like Pokemon anyway, with or without Titan for comparison... that's the thing I hate most about Anime, everyone uses the same stupid unrealistic drawing styles (pointy noses, eyes that are 3x as tall as they are wide, etc.) and the plots are often very repetitive ("find all the Dragon Balls" "find all the Jewel Shards" "find all the Mini-cons" "find all the etc. etc. etc....") I wrote a huge rant about this weeks ago, dunno where it went... I think it was on a thread about the definition of anime...
Basically, there is only ONE anime I know of that can top the best of American animation.
Now I want to make a live-action Exo Squad.
