Re: I Still Love Dbz!
I've only seen it dubbed, but I honestly don't think it would matter - I didn't like it because I don't like Goku that much - and I really didn't like Frieza - so I had no attachment to either side during that fight. I don't mind long fights that involve characters I like, so the main problem I had was the combatants - not the fight itself. ^_^;SSJ_Mitsuka wrote:Funny, I loved the Goku vs. Freeza battle..I think it's one of the best parts of the show. Only the dub annoyed me(lord I hate it)..

Oh, I see, lol, it's cool if you don't like Goku and Freeza..
It's very hard to believe isn't it? That the japanese version can be THAT MUCH different.
well anyway, i'm going to explain some stuff here, read it or ignore me, lol!! It's up you. ^_^ Hehe.
Goku's character in the dub is way to..well..HERO MAN..and they try to make him seem thick headed...when really he's supposed to be a naive, childlike guy who LOVES to battle..
Freeza is one of my favorite characters now..guess why? Yup, the japanese version.. I didn't like him at all until I finally got to experience his true nature.. well, you'de have to get the dvds to see what I mean..
Freeza lost because he was never satisfied with his victims suffering.. unless his opponent is broken both mentally and physically.. he's not satisfied... A very sick, sadistic fellow..O_O And in the end, Goku snapped, turned Super Saiya_jin and defeated Freeza..things just didn't work out for him eh? lol..
ok, now i'm just babbling...lol!

Re: I Still Love Dbz!
it really does make all the difference, for instance, my first dvd of dbz i watched was movie 6, i watched the dub and was blown away...the actingwas much better etc...then i watched the sub and BLOODY HELL I reallised what 99.9999% of the internet dbz fan was saying was true, i think i counted up about...2/3 sentences that were in anyway identical in the dub/sub and they added stuff too ¬_¬.Arigatomyna wrote:I've only seen it dubbed, but I honestly don't think it would matter
Although if you REALLY wanna see where FUNi went wrong check out move 4 in dub/sub...
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Ah, the Super Android 13 (?) movie made it pretty clear to me how much they change in the way of dialogue. ^_^;;)v(ajin Koji wrote:it really does make all the difference, for instance, my first dvd of dbz i watched was movie 6, i watched the dub and was blown away...the actingwas much better etc...then i watched the sub and BLOODY HELL I reallised what 99.9999% of the internet dbz fan was saying was true, i think i counted up about...2/3 sentences that were in anyway identical in the dub/sub and they added stuff too ¬_¬.Arigatomyna wrote:I've only seen it dubbed, but I honestly don't think it would matter

But what I meant was, even seeing the Goku/Frieza fight in Japanese (which I *have* seen now since I got a few of the dvds for the Vegeta footage) didn't stop me from skipping over it after one viewing. There just aren't any characters I like in that fight, so not much holds me to it. I don't watch the anime in english now that I'm getting the dvds, but even in Japanese I rarely watch arcs and specials that revolve around Goku (only the inbetween scenes focused on other characters). I just don't like him (there are a few exceptions - ssj3 was cool since his attitude changed). It's not the dub - it's the character.
Goku is the sort of 'happy/naive/semi-ditsy but always the hero' character that annoys me - I didn't like him in Dragonball, Dbz or GT - whether I watched them in english, japanese, or italian (don't ask >.< ). I watch the anime for the characters, but after watching it once through I tend to skip scenes with people I don't like - which definitely includes that long Goku/Frieza fight.

Re: I Still Love Dbz!
well, that clears that up..BTW have you seen the blue water dub of GT? it was only aired in Canada and the UK but maybe you have...anyway the point is that the blue water dub had original music, pretty much unedited script and ok-verging on bad-VA's, it's really worth seeing though just to get a taste of what FUNi couldve done...

I saw a clip from that dub.. everyone's voice was ok except Vegeta's I thought.. lol.. Actually I don't really know.. poo on the dub, i'm just going to keep away from it. lol.. Haven't seen the dub since the Cell saga ended...couldn't take it any longer.
Arigatomyna.. lol.. hehe, well, either way, I recommend movies 8, 6, 12 and 13.. those are my favorites. ^_^ Especially movie 8...
I'm not trying to change your mind, i'm just voicing MY opinion on him, lol..
Funny, I felt the same way about Goku.. and when I was younger.. even put on my site how much I hated him. but after I saw so so much of the original version.. I only grew to love that cute childlike vibe about him.. though really he truly is an ASS during battles.. lol..
In the Piccolo saga you could really see the Saiya_jin within him.. I think he TRULY did mature as the show moved on.. I couldn't belive how much he couldn't control himself at first..
Vegeta, poor poor Vegeta, in the dub they turned him into a egotistical whiny brat who whines and complains about anything and everything!! In the original he's really the quiet mysterious prince of the Saiya_jins. Does anyone else want to through a rock at the televsion once you hear Christopher Sabat's voice? O_- Lord it's unbearable.
LOL, sorry for changing the topic, but I put my opinion of Dragonball Z, I think it's a classic, and well.. look back to see.. I'm waiting for more replys.. thankyou everyone for being so cool with this topic!

I know why people like him. ^.~ Those are the same characteristics that make me not like him very much - I just prefer the heroes/villains who *aren't* sensitive or sweet a majority of the time. And Goku is definitely a sweet one - the only time I like him is when he's fighting, and that usually lasts up until he shows mercy on his enemy (though I'm glad he didn't let Vegeta die - of course. ^_^;; ).SSJ_Mitsuka wrote:Funny, I felt the same way about Goku.. and when I was younger.. even put on my site how much I hated him. but after I saw so so much of the original version.. But speaking of dubs - omg, when I first realized Goku had a high pitched feminine voice I nearly died laughing. >.<;; I'm used to that being linked with effeminate characters in anime so it was a *huge* shock to my view of him. Didn't make me like him any more or less, but it was definitely different from the dub. And Vegeta - I really love his Japanese voice. It *is* the opposite of the dub (like Goku) - when they have him raising his voice in the dub he's really keeping a quiet tone so people shut up to hear him - that's more commanding than a character who has to shout to get attention. After hearing him in Japanese I won't watch it in English. ^_^;
