‹Which one do you think is the Otaku?› Minako asked Sakamae, in a quiet voice.
‹Eh, otaku?› Lina tilted her head, never really hearing the term applied to Americans.
‹You know, the otaku, there's always one, who thinks all we do is watch animation and eat ramen while learning about giant robots.› Answered Minako.
‹Proabbly that one.› Sakamae point down to the group. ‹The twitchy one, in the Rei Ayanami t-shirt.›
‹Should we tell him that Sailor Moon doesn’t live here?› Suggested Minako, with a wicked, sarcastic grin.
‹And ruin his hopes and dreams? Minako, deary, could we be so cruel?›
‹…› Lina blinked, as her two friends cackled like witches.

I'm a guy, and I thought about doing some cosplay, just for the hell of it.
Actually, truth be told, it's because you get in free when you cosplay at the anime thingy in Sydney.
I was just going to get a pair of orange pants, a white school shirt and a black vest, (I already had the shirt and vest, but I couldn't find orange pants, oddly enough).
I was going as Teen Gohan, for no other reason than it's easy, cheap, and doesn't look weird (much).
P.S. I love those Japanese school girl outfits. Every girl should wear one.

Re: Cosplaying
Otakon 2003 was my first con and I went dressed as myself. I felt kinda left out though. A lot of people were in costumes of some sort and I thought they were having a lot of fun. It didn't appeal to me in an "OOO! I'm gonna cosplay as my favorite character because I adore him/her sooooo much!" sort of way. It kinda just made me nostalgic for the days when I was younger. I haven't dressed in a real costume in years. I have other things to do on Halloween and none of my friends throw halloween/costume parties. I'd dress up simply for the sake of dressing up.ryuu_hime13 wrote:I'm not sure if there's ever been a post on this before, but I'm thinking about attending my first anime convention next year and I'm really curious about cosplaying. How many people do it? Is it very popular? Where would you find some good gear?
If I go again and if I can pull something together (and if Pete is dressing as Kaworu again), I'd go as Rei from the 'alternate universe' scene in episode 26 of NGE with the cream sweater vest. Then at least I can smile as much as I want. No plug suit....ever. I'm a realist as far what I know I can wear and what I can't. I'm not obese but I'm no twig either. So if I want to dress as Rei...the sweater vest is probably the best way to go. I may never impress anyone but I won't make anyone throw up either.

Why would you wear a sweater vest in miami, it'd be hot.
Like those very, very thick uniforms the school in Hawaii made us wear....there was no air conditioning either, it was tourture!

Exactly! I'd never find one here. The only anime conventions in the state are usually in Orlando, which is farther up north, so it's cooler. But I must find a sweater vest!J-0080 wrote:Why would you wear a sweater vest in miami, it'd be hot.
