and i'm sure theres more, but i don't watch dubs enough to remember.

Milly was all right...I think the voice suited her. The short fat monk guy was Billy Bob Thornton, wasn't it? Pretty odd...I mean, a MONK....

yea but i don't really know who billy bob throton is anyways ... plus that guy wasn't your average monk either ...

i also forgot to include the dub cast for berserk ... i only saw the first episode dubbed, but it got it's one epiosde test to sink or swim and it sank like a skinny guy with 80lbs of lead tied to his balls.

You've got to be kidding....that was a great dub. All the voices were perfect fits for the characters, there wasen't one voice I disliked.

I guess one dub thats bugged me is the Crest of the Stars dub...it makes it hard to watch, everyone sounds so boring >.< After the first two or so they got a little better, but I'm having trouble getting past the second disk cause of them.

I have no real complaints about a dub on the whole that haven't been mentioned, so I'll say a few specific character voices.

Tsukasa (.hack//SIGN). Jim Hawkings he really isn't, but to be fair, the VA got into the voice after the first couple episodes.

Mimuri (.hacK) - not bad, but she does sound older than she's supposed to be.

Chidore Kaname (Full Metal Panic) - Honestly, she sounds like a guy trying to do a girl's voice.

Alex Rowe (Last EXILE) - I usually like Crispin Freeman's work, but I don't think the voice he's using (by the 4th episode) fits the character. He just doesn't sound like a man with a deathwish. (I admit I watched the whole show fansubbed)

LOL. In Viz's early Ranma 1/2 releases (the OVA's, first season or two, etc) they were cheap bastards and used a woman to voice both Male and Female. I don't know when it was that they realized this was a horrible idea, but at least by season 4 they hired Richard Cox (aka Inuyasha's brash voice actor) to take over male Ranma's voice. This was, in my opinion, were the Ranma 1/2 dub voice acting went from one of the worst to slightly good overall. He is perfect for both roles (inuyasha and ranma) because both are arrogant but likeable assholes in often unenviable positions. What I found interesting is that Not only is the english voice actor the same for both Ranma and Inuyasha, but Kaipei Tamaguchi (forgive me if the name is wrong) does both Ranma and Inuyasha in the subbed version as well.

Anyway, back on topic, worst dubs and why:

1.) Love Hina: At one point, this was my favorite anime. Its still up there, but I'll be blunt; the dub is atrocious. Possibly the best japanese cast ever makes Love Hina's dub look much worse than it already is. But even if the sub was ordinary, the dub would still be a top 5 worst. The squeeky, "fast food kid from the simpsons" style voice for Keitaro is a huge mistake, we're supposed to love this guy, not be horribly annoyed by him. Naru has the same voice actress as the aforementioned Kaoru and Meryl Stryfe, and she doesnt fit the idol-like Naru. Motoko is the only decent voice, but she sounds to gruff and old to be a convincing 15 year old. You would think giving Kitsune a southern accent would make her even more insanely sexy but somehow it backfires (go figure, a southern accent in Japan might seem out of place ;P). I love this anime, its a top anime in the echi romantic comedy dept, (just behind the immortal Ranma 1/2), but please, stick to the sub.

2.) Rurouni Kenshin-TV: Ok, this dub is quite a bit better than Love Hina's. The aforementioned guy who does the voice of Kenshin/Legato does a decent job. Same with Kaoru's voice actress. Sanosuke has a good voice but sounds stiff, like he's reading his lines. The little kid is a likeable brat, but he is obviously voiced by a woman, and a good voice actress would at least sound halfway convincing. Megumi (i think) the female doctor who is initially suicidal, is very well voice acted and is the best actor in the show. There are good voices in this show that have regular appearances, however many side characters are badly voiced and hurt the shows credibility. At least as much at fault is the writing. During an episode near the end of the first season (the circus episode), a dizzied villain starts singing "ring around the rosie" in the most annoying manner possible. It was at that moment that I decided to watch the rest subbed.

3.) Ranma 1/2: Ah, yes, my favorite anime off all time. Like love hina it is hurt by the fact that the sub is awesome. Its initial decision to use a woman to voice Ranma's male AND female side is the biggest dubbing mistake I have ever seen. Ryoga is completely different dubbed, hes a softy with no passion instead of a tough softy FILLED with passion in the sub. Female voices on the show are excellent in the dub, although Shampoo sounds A LITTLE TOO MUCH like Elmo! Its a dub that starts off TERRIBLE and actually becomes above average once the voice actors settle in to their roles and Richard Cox (from inuyasha) comes in to save Male ranma's voice.

4.) Kenshin OAV: This is one that once again is just horribly overshadowed by the incredibly superior sub. Other than that though, it quickly settles in and becomes a decent dub.

5.) Inuyasha, the first 10 episodes: Ah, yet another of my favorite animes here. The Inuyasha series is voiced by the excellent "Ocean Group" out of Vancouver, Canada (also known for Ranma 1/2 and Escaflowne). Eventually, Inuyasha becomes one of my favorite dubs (for its cheesy humor and seemingly ad-libbed lines), but it goes through some serious growing pains. A lot of people are annoyed by Kagome's voice, but in my opinion its very appropriate. The sub version of Kagome (while still good) is too angry for a character that essentially serves as a cheerleader. This cheerleader side can be annoying, and she has some really stupid lines such as "Toto, I don't think we're in Tokyo anymore." Kaede says "YE" WAY, way, too much. Since the first half of Inuyasha's first season isnt very good anyway, I might as well add that many "villians of the week" during this stretch are not exactly great themselves.

Once these voice actors settled down, and excellent supporting cast members voicing Sango, Miroku, Kikyo, Sesshomaru, Naraku and Kikyo appear, the dub becomes a hot/cold one, with it being very good and very serious when it wants to, and very stupid at other times. I think the stupid/silly side of the show eccentuates the darker side, because it endears us to the characters so when something bad happens to them, we feel for them in a different way than we would if there were no light hearted moments. This is pretty much the same strategy that Kenshin-TV uses, but for some reason many of the light hearted parts of Kenshin irked me and the silly parts of Inuyasha worked.
