Well, according to Michael Crichton (Lost World), people don't like to think. Most everybody prefers to have someone else do their thinking for them. How does that fit in? Free will to choose who thinks for you?

Yes, the Lost World was a good book, I preffer Jurassic Park though, I like the conversations Malcolm had with Hammond.

Anyway, of course free will is still free will if you use it to have others choose for you. A lot of people do choose to not think, but that is still making a choice. Like Ayanami Rei for example, she usually does whatever someone tells her to do, but she's still acting on her own occurd to please herself. Heh heh, there's nothing better to weave into a conversation than Evangelion, I'm thinking about dropping all my other favorite anime and devoting 24 hours of every day to it! :D

Perhaps the lack of sleep would aid in comprehension!

Again, we're completely disregarding the fact that the Marduk report was a hoax. That raises the question of whether there really was an age correlation at all.

Perhaps there is some coincidence in the fact that all of the children are motherless?

No we're not. The fact remains that anyone who is able to pilot an Evangelion got put in Shinji's classroom. Kaji confirms this even after he finds out that there's no Marduk institute. There are no ten-year-olds in Shinji's classroom. They're all ~14. This means that when Ritsuko says they have to use 14-year-olds, she's actually telling the truth for once.

That doesn't really prove anything regarding an age limit. I'm not convinced, because everything in Eva is fitted to make at least some sort of pseudo-logical sense, and there's no real sense as to why every kid born after 2I would be magical enough to pilot Eva. The only thing that would make sense is the mentioned chamber of gopf thing, but even that seems sketchy.

Well, honestly there are some reasons it could make sense. Maybe the Second Impact caused an earth wide radiation that affected the brain waves of all babies shortly before birth, and this radiation caused the brain to have the more powerful projectile ability to synchronize with the Evangelions. It's possible, I suppose ;)
