Cowboy Bebop is better, therefore Spike wins? Hmm, terrible logic. And being more realistic doesn't really make one better, since unrealistic powers are a huge advantage.
Vash is serious enough. To think that since Vash isn't always serious he can never be serious is a lapse of reason. There are enough times that we see him being dead serious. Vash can be extremely serious if he must.
Don't get me wrong, I don't defend Vash because I like Trigun more. Spike is one of my all time favorite characters, and he's also one of, if not the single, character(s) I look up to most. He'd be easily somewhere in my top 5, where as Vash wouldn't be on my list (providing that I made one) until atleast 20 or so. And as for Bebop, well it's one of my all time favorites aswell, right up there in my "absolute favorites" category, while Trigun, as much as I like it, is a good ways removed from there, below a lot of my favorites. I defend Vash because he has the advantage and he would win, undoubtedly he would win. Spike isn't about being the uber-power that wins every fight, heck in Episode 1 (Asteroid Blues, one of my favorites) the first time we see Spike encounter an enemy, he's defeated (granted it's from a back attack, but he appeared pretty helpless to stop it) and then in Balld of Fallen Angels he's defeated, and again in Jupiter Jazz, and there are plenty of other occurances like that. That's not what Spike is about, he's a supreme fighter that wins many battles no one else would be able to, but he's not infallible or undefeatable. Vash on the other hand, he depends on his supreme power, the gun shots he makes are incredible. Plus the dodges that he makes are also incredible, even if Spike was attacking Vash in a spaceship and Vash was just running away, I think Vash would succeed.
