You know I don't really see how anyone can be offended of course I'm a guy.But its really depends on who the creator is Female or Male and how they draw honestly.
Like in Naruto,Sakura=Cute, the creator doesn't think he can draw girls very good or cute but most of the girls still ended up cute.
Inuyasha,Kagome=Hot and this was drawn and created by a Female.
All depends on the creator.

yeah, the creator really does have the say as to how the women are drawn and how their personalities are portrayed
but as for fan-service, it's nothing that can be accidental, it's not like running around in an anime world and innocently getting the hawt footage. it's drawing cell by cell the fan service, and this is also a creator's decision... but of course everything has it's own audience
if we live outside of japan, maybe most anime to us is just anime (obviously with different genres) but if you think about it, the anime that has so much more fanservice is probably that way because it wasn't intended for higher-level thinking audiences, it's not for ppl that want to see story and drama and depth.... it's for pervs
shows like Ikketousan (sp?) where the girl can definately kick arse but there is more fan-service than i can shake a stick at are the way they are because there is money to be made, so that audience that wants hawt women and action comes clawing at the anime store's door ready to fork out the cash for their anime
just depends on what is the intended audience and how low society is that we condone that

That's not what I meant at all, actually. I said that they tend to do different things.bum wrote:Translate: If a guy's doing/thinking about it, its perverted. I've yet to see anyone fixated on packages. Though some fangirls are perverted, it's not so much about sex as it is about eye-candy, at least most of the time.
Stereotypical Fanboy: *whack whack whack whack*
Stereotypical Fangirl: SQUEEE he's so cuuuuute!
Seeing a difference?
Yes, there are pervomaster fangirls out there, and occasionally I am one of them. But the tendencies for each group are different. You're suggesting that fangirls are obsessed with dicks just because fanboys are obsessed with boobs, which, in my experience, isn't the case at all.
You could snipe at me, or, you could, you know, read my damn post.

Actually, while that is the right stereotype, I don't think that actually displays the attitude of most fanboys with much accuracy - unless, again, my perception of a fanboy is wrong.SarahtheBoring wrote: Stereotypical Fanboy: *whack whack whack whack*

Alternatively, you may call me a liar, but back when I was in this 'fanboy' stage, I did actually have more of a 'omg kewt' type of attraction to cute female characters than one might assume. Nor was, or am I, to any degree obsessed with boobs
Although I will admit that overt sexual imagery is far more popular with the male side of anime fandom than with the fangirls.

There is an intresting little fact that migth explain why this is, and I am sorry if this at all seems off topic, or offends anyone, but...
The reason anime has more fanservies is because it is more aimed at men (remember this is my opionon!). You see, a girl is not affraid to do what a guy does, for the most part. We have all seen tomboys, but a guy, well most of them, probably would never even walk into a girls clothing store. I am using this example to make a point. You see women in general are less fearful, they are not afraid to do what guys do, guys are the opposite of that. Dresses are sold mostly to women and almost no men, there audeince is women.
With anime it is mostly aimed at my. The reason is simple, they make more money that way. If it is aimed mostly at men then they satisfy the male buyers and there are also a good, but less, amount of female buyers. If this was reversed men would not like anime. If anime was aimed at women as it is men or if they were even seen at an even level, the men would start to thing that this is a chick thing, and less would be sold to men. In fact the male buyer would proabably be in the 1% area. The reason, same as why men are afread to buy dresses, for themselves. They are fearful of the way they would look buying anime as much as they would a dress if anime was aimed more or even with women.
The fact that it is aimed more at men, sells it better, because women aren't afraid of looking manly, in that sence anyway. Well, that is my two cents on why this is the way it is. sorry for the spelling.

I didn't say it literally applied to everyone, and I don't mean it to literally apply to everyone. That's why I said "stereotypical" and said "most" and "often" a lot.Otohiko wrote:Actually, while that is the right stereotype, I don't think that actually displays the attitude of most fanboys with much accuracy - unless, again, my perception of a fanboy is wrong.SarahtheBoring wrote: Stereotypical Fanboy: *whack whack whack whack*

Your last line is exactly what my point was. Again! I'm going to need Otohiko subtitles on every one of my posts here. Or maybe people just listen to you more readily than they listen to me; I don't think bum would have bitched at you as he did at me. But who knows. Whatever, anyway, well put!

LOL, the only true response to such a statement.Stereotypical Fanboy: *whack whack whack whack*
Stereotypical Fangirl: SQUEEE he's so cuuuuute!
Thank the heavens the human race isn’t so stereotypical, I would have died of boredom years ago. There are as many types of fans as there are stars in the sky. I wouldn’t be surprised if any two of them couldn’t agree on liking any particular character for the same reason.Yes, there are pervomaster fangirls out there, and occasionally I am one of them. But the tendencies for each group are different. You're suggesting that fangirls are obsessed with dicks just because fanboys are obsessed with boobs, which, in my experience, isn't the case at all.
It’s hard to draw distinctions from such a sample. Sadly I do have to agree that there is a large part of the fanboys out there that will indulge in ceaseless self pleasure, and for the most part there are some girls that will fantasies about spending time with that special imaginary someone for hours on end. But as Sarath and otohiko as willing to admit it doesn’t represent the population as a whole.
I personally did not mean in my earlier post that it’s only logical that women focus on the male member since men focus on the breast. Simply trying to point out that points of interest are emphasized so as to arouse that admittedly perverse pleasure and thus increase sales, plus giving fans what the author thinks they most want.
I didn't say it literally applied to everyone, and I don't mean it to literally apply to everyone. That's why I said "stereotypical" and said "most" and "often" a lot.
=_= Damn, takes me too long to type these things, oh well, why can’t I make my post as short or elegant. In any case, off to unconsciousness.Although I will admit that overt sexual imagery is far more popular with the male side of anime fandom than with the fangirls.
