Dubs - actually bad, or just unfairly biased against?

But what else will people bitch about if not dubs? The prices of DVDs? I think the complaint now is that TV chanels show dubs with very few exceptions, so the cheap/lazy peoples who still complain are only doing so because they're too cheap to buy the DVDs and now watch Dubbed versions which have been edited down for kids (where people get drunk off of tea and orange juice). The discusion is pointless, but that doesn't mean a few people won't carry on about it. Even I'm disapointed by how anime always seems to lose its edge in the transition from manga to anime. My solution? Buy and read the manga.

I only buy my manga in Japanese though, too! (seriously)

but... but.... jesus, you'd BETTER be able to READ Japanese, too, not just by the comics... otherwise there's not point to it if you're just looking at the pictures and TRYING to figure out what's going on based on their context (which you can only do with about a 25% success rate - so much relies on the text); Hell, if it's new, you won't even know who's who! It's like watching the animes in just raw japanese without having the dubs... the only reason you laugh at them is cause they make funny sounds and faces - and if you want that, you're not doing much more than what my 5 year old niece does with Teletubbies. I'll give props to people for at least reading the subs, but when people say "I only watch the raw Japanese; no I don't SPEAK it," that just bothers me (and I've run into quite a few)...

Well, I kinda use it as practice material. I wouldn't be so pretentious as to claim I can really read Japanese fluently, or pick it up from speaking for that matter.

But my preference for subbed anime would be partially explained by the fact that I usually don't look at the subs when I'm watching, unless I'm utterly lost, ehehe

That's exactly the problem. It takes less time to read than it does to talk (at least for most people) and therefore the pacing is messed up. (And it can be really hard to figure out who's saying what.)

And, like Malificus said, some people are slow readers.

i believe that dubbed anime are seriously complained about too much
for one thing, dubbed dvd's have both subbed and dubbed versions on them, so people who like both can benefit
Freddy vs Jason vs Alucard
WHO WILL WIN!!!!
