Oh, people.
I did cosplay before I did AMVs (starting in 1999), and it still cracks me up to hear people saying how very very very different they are, because to me it's all one big happy fanwork lovely dork-ass mix, and I love it all. I do hate the over-the-top attention-whore style cosplay junkies, though. People need to relax about their hobbies. But anyway.
Unfortunately, I am ugly as sin, so I almost always make costumes for other people who are prettier than I am. That is also fun, since I love sewing (it's been my major hobby for the last 10 years), and it's fun to help people do something fun and dorky. I'm lazy about putting pictures together on a webpage all organized-like, but here are a few from this past year, and one from last year (on the hanger), and my all-time favorite, which was several Halloweens ago and fun as hell.
Now working on my 18th and 19th costumes, two mages from Final Fantasy Tactics. Much fun. I should be working on one right now, actually. *cough*
It's fun. Like anything, you get out of it what you put into it.

You could do a pretty good Gendo I think.azulmagia wrote:I've said a couple of times that I'd be cosplaying Ayato Kamina from RahXephon at Anime North, but that was a joke. I'm probably too old to be a real cosplayer. I look young enough to pull it off but still...plus I don't have enough money. I suppose I could be persuaded, but I doubt it. One of these days I might grow a Gendou beard though...
Cosplay on hot chicks is totally great on the other hand. I especially like Chiis and Kagomes.

Remember that Robin a couple of years ago? Eh? Eh?
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Not true!! You can do any cosplay you want, its all about being bold enough to try somthing different. I dont think an asian could pull off someone like barret, spike or mugen.b00omshakalaka wrote:Cosplaying is soo kool! i personally dont think i would do it since 1: Ill never get the outfit and 2: it wouldnt look right. I think the only people that can pull off the look are asian people they just look soo freeakin kool i love em! tho im not saying people that arent can't cuz im sure it would work for some i suppose but ill say its rare. I admire em ^-^ lol

And I don't remember the Robin from a couple of years ago. Though, I can imagine what my reaction was.

Man, she was awesome by the agreement of all males present at the con. Quite possibly the most accurate cosplay I've seen.

Considering most anime characters don't look *specifically* Asian, and it's pretty dumb to assume one race has some sort of superior sewing ability over another... Yeah. I've seen some amazing Asian cosplayers (I've also seen some horrible ones, and the only reason everyone thinks Japan has OMG! Super Cosplay Powers is because only the really GOOD pictures get circulated worldwide). I've also seen many good white/black/Hispanic cosplayers.
As for this Robin... I think I know who you're talking about, because I've only seen about three really good Robins and I think Ali was the only one of them who had the costume a few years ago (and the other two made theirs more recently). Did she go the blondish route or the brunette route for her wig?
