Well I never just got into it, my older brother was always watching anime and I did as well.
However I was too young to understand most of them, so about 5/6 years ago when I was 11 I think I watched them over again and just kept an eye out for anime in the T.V. guide.
Its only in the last 3/4 years when I actually started buying anime....because basically hardly any were shown on T.V., well not as much as now.
Now would probably be the best time to get into anime in England. Sci-Fi channel shows Evangelion, Blue Gender, Martian Successor Nedesico as well as an anime movie every Thurday (even though quite a few ain't that good and a lot are just repeats), CNX are showing Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop.
You are also more likely to find people who know about anime and also a selection of anime titles in a high street store.
However saying that, I know only about 10 people who know a bit about anime and watch some (mainly..... DBZ) and that is only because I have got them slightly interested in it, only one person who is actually into anime, and there was that time we had to introduce ourself in English Lit for a few people who had joined in the 2nd year.
As I wanted to get my English Lit teacher to watch some anime as he is also a media teacher and I thought it would do him so good, he said I was into Japanese stuff like anime (which I am) and the entire class a sort of confused look on there faces went silent......... *howling wind in the background*
However since I've been in the class for a year it was okay after a second ackwardness of silence, but I thought it basically shows that anime is no where near maimstream.
Wait a minuit............................have I just went completely off-topic then?
Oh well, sorry if I did.

I believe the first anime I watched was Ronin Warriors. That was about 8 years ago. Back then all that was on TV was Ronin Warriors, Voltron and Sailor Moon. The only thing that really bugged me about Ronin Warriors was their stupidly large sideburns. -_-
........i used to LOVE that show! ....but yes, very stupid sideburns..hehe

As a kid I remember watching things like Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, and Voltron. Back then, I didn't even realize what anime was. When I was a little older, I saw Robotech (aka Macross... damn you Carl Macek). At that point I could tell that something about it was a little different than your normal american animation. I then discovered that it was this wonderful thing called 'anime', and that most of the animation I so fondly remembered from my younger years was also 'anime'. Soon afterwards, Akira was released into theatres for the first time. At that point I began to actively seek out more anime to watch. Ever since, I have been hopelessly addicted...

A lot of people probably wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about if you told them you like anime. I only know that a couple of my older sister's friends who do. Showing more anime on T.V should get more people into it though. The eps of evangelion and Nadesico Thursday nights are repeats of the ones shown on Saiko exciting (Sunday 12.00 pm, Monday 5.00 pm).Sushi2 wrote:Well I never just got into it, my older brother was always watching anime and I did as well.

Tell me about it, at least I have one person who I an talk in depth about anime.....even if it is only on Mondays.A lot of people probably wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about if you told them you like anime. I only know that a couple of my older sister's friends who do.
If that was aimed at me, I know they show it on Saiko exciting. I watch it Thursday as there are no interuptions (except adverts..but what can you do?), watch anime movie and Blue Gender and night time is the only time I can watch something in peace without siblings talking so I end up missing everything.Showing more anime on T.V should get more people into it though. It became a routine during the holidays, but now I am pissed off that collage is started again as I end up being am so tired on Friday mornings.

1979 Star blazers and Battle of the planets I was 5. of course I didn't know those were anime so I'm guessing the first thing I saw that I knew was anime was tank police and it was on showtime or cinemax maybe circa 94ish? But of course that didn't get me into anime. Slayers the movie did in 99.
