Kino's Journey has moved down a notch on my fav list, so now it is Fruits Basket.
Why:
Reason One: The main character embodies values that I myself had.
Reason Two: The sub-characters all embody different pains, and the main character (mostly) fixes them. I love a happy story.
Reason Three: I think that the comedy and humor is well put, and there aren't any too horrible sexual, racial or terrible slurrs. We have ourselves a semi-innocent anime, with only a few sexual references.

Kino's Journey is my favorite because the way the individual stories are told (as it's an episodic anime with no real overarching story) are just brilliant. They all have deep meaning and usually play off of some human trait or instinct. Also, in every episode you are left constantly guessing how everything is going to manage to tie together at the end, and it ALWAYS DOES, somehow, usually in a totally unexpected and ironic yet entirely logical way. It's fun, the animation is spectacular (especially the way the animators set Kino and Hermes apart from the 'common folk'), and it's one of the most thought-provoking things I've ever seen.

currently i would have to say konjiki no gash bell(despite my user name )
reasons- Its a very funny anime while having a lot of action, and quite a few serious parts. Plus it brings in many characters that all have different personalties and such and such. Also I like how it isn't just the theme the good guys win, many of the characters lose and can't fight anymore. But anyways yeah I recommend it.

I think my favourite has always been Yu Yu Hakusho.
My sister actually was interested in it first, so I ended up skimming through an episode she had. Then, out of curiosity, I looked for more Kurama-centric episodes (going by titles). Liked the character... discovered WMM... and yeah, threw together a few videos using only those episodes. Grew from there, I guess. It's still the only series I can remember and specify actual episode numbers
Now I have a very strong sentimental attachment to it - it's nostalgic, and it started up a bunch of different interests for me, like fanart, fanfics and AMVs.
Although despite the fact that it's my favourite series, it's probably the only one that I haven't watched from start to finish. I'm not even sure if I've seen all 112 episodes.

Oh man, you need to. You're missing out not watching it from start to finish. It's a really great story that grows on you more and more and when you finally get to the end you go "Ah...that was a fun ride."
Too bad I don't live within mailing distance, I would send you over the DVDs :p
Japanese though, NO DUB. Just remember that, it's crucial.
