Tact is over ratedGarridy wrote:Its called conversational tact. There are times when certain subjects are best not brought up, depending on the environment you are conversing in.
I'd rather be known for being so overtly blunt and truthful, that people don't waste my time asking me if I'm serious.
And no one ever has to waste effort reading between the lines with me. No, there's nothing between the lines eh.
Subtle is also over rated.

I don't hide it... I just don't bring it up.
Even if I find out someone is a fan (happens often lately) I just say "So yer watching anime huh" and that's it. I never discuss anime/manga because i find it to be boring. I have internet for all my weaboo needs, IRL I'd rather talk about other stuff

I'm used to live with a rule to myself: If I do something, I can tell anybody, because if you know me, you know there must be a good reason for that, and if you don't know me, then I don't care.
That said, I don't provoke a conversation about anime with people who may not be interested in. I answer and even go further if anyone else starts with it.
I'm 23, and I always find older people to have a wrong idea about anime; as many of you already said, they think they must be "stuff for children", when they are lucky enough to avoid mistaking with hentai. Oh well, what I always try to do, when I smell this position, is to explain that I've found several anime which were actually deeper and more clever than many well-regarded Hollywood productions.
That brings the thing back to the first assumption: people near me usually know my way of being extremely serious and not childish at all, and therefore trust me and get curious.
