2. It means you are supporting the anime. If you only download anime I not going ot call you a fan of SHIT. YOU ARE NOT AN ANIME FAN you are worthless in the eyes of the producer.

For those of you who have to wait for those ridiculously long periods of time. For domestic release in your country, etc.
Well, you wait! Get the digisubs, love the anime, and wait... in this waiting period, you obviously have the time to save up! If it never gets licensed, well, you saw the anime at least... ^_^

Well, I'll admit I've not read this entire thread, only browsed a little, but it doesn't look like much has been said about the original statement, "When does it ever suck for something to be licensed?", so I'll go ahead and state my opinion, and hopefully it hasn't been stated before.
In my opinion, the legit companies usually don't sub to my satisfaction. Yes, you heard me right. In fact, I'm sometimes downright PISSED OFF when I see the horrible work done on some of the dvds that I've purchased. The best example I can think of is revolutionary girl utena the tv series. The subtitles are absolutely terrible. I can't even count all the mistakes I've seen. Misspelled words, inconsistent names (within the same episode even!") wrong episode titles (correct me if im mistaken there), and I even saw a line that changed somewhat before the duration of the line was finished. I can't recall exactly what it was, but I think a line was onscreen that contained a comma, and suddenly the comma just disappeared. If not for the fact that I needed to collect the series for an amv, I would not pay for this shit.
Now there are some subtitled work put out that I am generally satisfied with. However, I typically don't like the style of writing that they use in professional subtitles, it just sounds too "proper" or something. I wish they would offer a seperate subtitle track that included name suffixes, and contractions, and conrrect japanese names. It's just annoying sometimes, though I can live with it.
As a fansubber myself, I try to strive for utmost quality in my work. Of course, errors slip in from time to time, and I don't claim my work to be any better than the work that the companies are putting out. However, I'm doing this for free. They are freaking GETTING PAID. If I was getting paid, I would do a DAMNED GOOD JOB, not a half-assed job. There would be NO ERROR in my work, I can tell you that.

Well I know they will change the word order in the subtitle because japanese and Engish use dramitly diffrent gramica rules when they speak. The uses the same words just changing the placement of the verbs and nones so they get the same meaning in engish as they do in Japanesise. And Translating it not a simple science. It more of a art forum. But Most complains do a pretty good job now. They are doing a lot better than the used to. If people fan sub they a lot of people will only download and never buy which means crappy profectoin subs for us.
If humans don't want me....
Then why'd they create me?

This is a good, solid discussion going on here, with valid points brought up.
...which is why I wonder why I'd like this thread to die already. Maybe because there's not much left to say about this. Maybe because we already wrote a whole analytical book on the topic in this thread.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

:PStupid: "Oh, yeah, I've been downloading that."
:?Me: "URGE TO KILL!"
If you're going to do it, be discrete about it.

I believe Gary, Omni and myself were talking about the illegal part and not fansubs. I thought it was pretty clear in his statement and my own in the past .Kristyonna wrote:DW? You too? I was going to ignore Garylisk and Omni because I figured they just hadn't taken the time to read what the actuall discussion was about but I know you did. This isn't about me or Garylisk's friend (the guy I was defending in the first place) justifying anything. It's about whether or not you like or dislike the way anime is being brought to the U.S. and if you're happy when something gets licensed.dwchang wrote:Amen!Garylisk wrote: In the end, your argument is just more of the same old justification to make you feel less guilty. And if that's not the case, it's just another argument for the side you believe is right.
If you want to say it's good/bad to download something when it's illegal, start a new thread.
