Its always been this way, its engrained into them, a cultural system that goes back at least centuries. They have always had strong national pride, and based on productivity, its easy to see why.

Japan took defeat in WWII very hard. Its still stunning to me how this country literally rose out of the ashes (literally) to become the worlds second most powerful economic superpower. Last I checked, the average standard of Living is actually higher in Japan than it is in the U.S. Just another reason I need to visit Japan sometime during my lifetime.

Well anyway, I didn't mean to offend anyone with my story. I didn't make it up, its quite true, and I've come to accept the transgressions of the past. I don't find it at all funny, although I was kind of joking when I said my grandfathers spirit might strangle me. The truth is his legacy does leave a dark cloud on my family, especially on topics related to WWII and Japan, and especially both. I realize that this all happened long before I was born, before my father was born in fact, and thus neither myself or any of my surviving relatives are in any way responsible for his actions, therefore I feel no reason to be ashamed of it.
Seriously are you on crack. We own the majority of most major japanese companies they have been in a economic slump for 15 years. They do not have a higher standard of living than us either.

No, just getting my college education. It is true that they have been in one hell of a lengthy recession, but they do have the worlds second largest Gross Domestic Product, its almost exactly half of ours with less than half of our population. And I was actually surprised to find out the standard of living fact, it came out of my upper level Human Geography Class Textbook here at my University (it was published recently). I think the reason for the SoL statistic is because of Job security and company loyalty. Another factor is the fact that American SoL is overrated, its actually a lot lower than most people think when you consider the total population, not just the middle class (we actually score pretty high in several poverty categories among the Industrial nations, including being number 1 in child poverty). The fact is that a few of the leading industrial nations are all pretty comparable in terms of average SoL. I think a heavy contributing factor is that many industrial nations are more socialist than america (the poor live in better conditions, etc) When all the factors are considered, it actually ceased to be a shock.

Whether or not Americans own a majority of Japanese business I do not know, it wouldnt surprise me, not really (I mean, who built them up after WWII? We did), but I don't see how it relates to your point.

Only that these aquisitions have been made since 1990. in the 80s american companies were being bought out left and right by the japs it's exactly opposite now. Company loyalty is not what it used to be either as jap automakers have been laying off people that were susposed to have guaranteed jobs for life.

That would be Kimi Ga Nozomo Eien. Good series, but those two waitresses were kinda of annoying.

It is true that we have been sending jobs overseas like crazy as of late (last 3 years), which is probably the biggest reason for Bush's Unemployment crisis. For all the negative things we discuss about Japan's economy there invariably must be some positive elements at work that we're just not educated about, because the fact remains that despite a long recession Japan still has the 2nd highest GDP in the world and a higher SoL (admittably its close) than us. Japan has a reputation for Job security, efficiency, and company loyalty. But these are fairly unscientific, I don't have explicit data which tells me this, or tells me how much of an impact its having on SoL or GDP. What I can tell you is that after studying Economic geography in detail, their GDP is strong and so is their standard of living. Its right in the textbook. Textbooks are written by proffesors and are created from dozens of scholastic/research journals and other high credibility sources. For these reasons Textbooks are considered very credible sources of information.

But even outside my education, I already knew that Japan was a formidable economic superpower, its been that way for the longest time. Well thats all for that rant. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to.

Sorry everyone for sidetracking the thread.

Yes good series but in the end i was disapointed because I wanted the red haired girl to throw the blue haired girl in front of car and cripple her and then through her in the ocean cause she is a whore.
