Undead would be a more appropriate term. Also, since Kikyo has been revived, I think she's the same now as when she was alive. Doesn't make much difference to me. It's just like bringing someone back to life with CPR!

Alternate Solution..Lots of text but an interesting solution

Alternate Solution

Some of this has spoilers but nothing that has not been shown on TV.

First:
First I would like to say a lot people don’t seem to understand the situation. One person seemed to even think Naraku disguised as Kikyo nailed Inuyasha to the tree. I know I understand emotions, hidden meanings, symbols, and philosophical depth more than most, but pay attention people.

The Situation:

Its not that anyone hates anyone, but rather that Inuyasha, Kikyo, and Kagome’s emotions are twisted by Naraku.

Even Naraku loves Kikyo in a sick demented ex-criminal turned demon kind of way. This is important to note because like the protagonists Naraku loves someone beyond his reach. All the relationships are sort of have a tragic twist.

Relationships:
Inuyasha’s love for Kikyo.
Inuyasha’s inability to admit love for Kagome.
Kagome’s love of Inuyasha.
Kagome’s admiration of Kikyo.
Miroku’s inability to admit love for Sango.
Sango’s inability to admit love for a lech like Miroku.
Sango’s and Kohaku’s sibling love.

Koga’s love for Kagome.
Inuyasha and Shippo’s unspoken brotherly love.
Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha eventually develop a sort respect brotherly love for one another which grows in time. (Its starts pretty early on in the series. Inuyasha is impressed by Sesshoumaru, especially when he wields the Tetsusaiga. Sesshoumaru tells Inuyasha something like to be proud and not accept human help in fight at about the same time frame.)
Naraku’s love for Kikyo.
Kagara’s love for freedom she can not obtain.

The Triangle:

Kikyo only becomes a bitter hateful person because she loves Inuyasha, but was denied the freedom to love him in life and now in death. Now the time they would have had can never be returned as he both of them have changed while they wished for one another’s company.

Inuyasha only chases Kikyo over Kagome because he feels he owes her the life she gave to stop him. (Kikyo’s wound was from Naraku, but she used the last of her strength to stop Inuyasha.)

Kagome loves Inuyasha, but feels inferior to Kikyo and the past she shared with Inuyasha. Though she remains understanding of both Kikyo and Inuyasha’s tragic circumstance.

The Pick:
If I had to pick one I would pick Kagome. But I have a better solution.

Logistics of the matter:

Kagome is alive.
Kagome loves Inuyasha as he is in the present.
Kagome endlessly sacrifices for Inuyasha.
Kagome is very understanding of the sorrowful relationship between Inuyasha and Kikyo.
Kagome’s age matches Inuyasha’s appearance and maturity or sometimes his lack of maturity. (Yeah Inuyasha does have mature moments, mostly when he feels empathy for one of the others or Kikyo.)

Kagome being from another time works a little against her.

Kikyo is dead.
Kikyo wishes for the Inuyasha she once new.
Kikyo resents Kagome.
Kikyo’s emotions are so confused that it would be difficult for her to find any kind of resolution.
Kikyo is forced into a vampiric existence.

Kikyo does have the advantage that she could not kill Inuyasha in the past, but only imprison him even thinking he was her slayer.

My Alternate Solution:

Yes this issue bothered me enough I actually thought of this solution.

Why my Way?
Well Inuyasha will always have feelings for both Kikyo and Kagome. Both were kind to him when he had no one else. He feels for Kikyo’s sad loss. He also feels for Kagome being forced to endure his feelings for Kikyo.

Both Kikyo and Kagome deserve Inuyasha, but that would be to emotionally confusing for him. Not to mention Kikyo would still be dead. Though Inuyasha is only half human so I suppose Kikyo’s some what vampiric existence really is not that much of a problem. However Kagome would likely always feel less than Kikyo as Kagome is the reincarnation.

Well if magic can be bring back Kikyo, while her and Kagome share the same soul, lets take it a step further.

The Solution
Kagome and Kikyo should magically merge into one person. Basically I would want to see Kagome given Kikyo’s memories, feelings, powers, and some of her personality.

A Comparible Situation
I suppose it could be compared with Piccolo’s mergers with Nail and Kami from Dragonball Z. Though that is not where I got the idea. (Kagome’s age matches Inuyasha’s appearance and maturity better, but the past is Kikyo’s.)

Happy At Last
Kikyo would live her dream of freedom with Inuyasha while being one with Kagome. She would no longer have to resent Kagome. The wounds in Kikyo’s Soul could finally heal.

Kagome would share a past with Inuyasha being one with Kikyo. She would no longer feel inferior to Kikyo. She would no longer feel like second place having arrived to late as well.

Other bonuses would include an increase in demon slaying powers and happiness for Kikyo, Kagome, and Inuyasha. Not to mention Naraku’s scheme of emotional pain would be ultimately defeated. (Naraku really hurts them out of his own twisted want for Kikyo’s love in Onigumo’s past.) Maybe Kikyo being undead would extend Kagome’s life into something like that of a half demon’s as well.

Inuyasha would no longer feel torn between two loves and two times. He would not have to feel guilty for having made a choice. Not to mention guilt would plague the relationship no matter who he chose. No one’s heart would be left broken. (Yeah a choice would crush Kikyo. She still feels deep down. Coldness is a shield against hurt.)

So I suggest a merger. They share the same soul. They share a love for the same person. They both have a tragic relationship to Inuyasha. I say why not share the same body, if makes everyone happier.

Reply if you want. I would like to see what people think of my idea.

i agree with ya heavy metal, but what would you call her, yes it would be kikyo and kagome together and in kagome's body (i think that's what you said) but say in the moment of thigs like inu gets when he's around kikyo, and he calls her kikyo, wouldnt' kagome flip? even though kagome has admiration for kikyo and respects the relationship between her and inu, i think there's still apart of her that would not want to morph with kikyo, she's to independent. she'd want inu to love her for her not because she's a half and half.

good idea but i still go with kagome as herself

*name ideas for morphed inu girls --kakyo..?? ick....kigome?? ick...

Further Explanation:
You have a good point, but thats why I made the Piccolo comparison.

When Piccolo merged with Nail and Kami he remained Piccolo. He just gained a lost part to himself. He became Piccolo plus something extra.

She would still be Kagome and of course called Kagome.

It was the best alternative I could think of without someone getting short changed for their love.

Options:
The current options in the show seem to be go to hell with Kikyo or be with Kagome with Kikyo returning to death.

Going to hell would leave Kagome alone through her life.

If Kikyo died a second time Inuyasha would never forgive himself. That would overshadow any relationship.

I could not think of any other way than a merger to get around someone ending up miserable.

Difficulty:
The idea of a merger of two people is hard to grasp even for myself. Its kind of like wondering if your soul existed before you where born. (According to Plato for the soul to be immortal it must be beyond time and therefore have always existed. Just a thought on that.)

Kagome:
Kagome is very independent, but she may considered a merger a loving act toward Inuyasha. Plus it might gain her Kikyo's respect as an individual, since Kikyo sees her as merely a container of her own soul currently. But of course she would still remain Kagome. Kagome stands to gain memories and feelings for Inuyasha from before she knew him as well.

Inuyasha:
Inuyasha loves Kagome for who she is already. With Kikyo as a part of Kagome he would be able to stop holding back out of guilt knowing Kikyo found happiness. Its not that he would love her because her and Kikyo are one, but rather his love for Kikyo added to his love for Kagome. He would be free to love her for another in addition to herself.

Kikyo:
Kikyo could find happiness in a second chance to start over. Kagome is her reincarnation, so they are really the same person just living different lives with different circumstances. Its about her best option short of time travel, which would short change Kagome. Not to mention create a logical paradox.

Yeah, I gave this a little too much thought for it to be a good thing. Oh well.

Ouch!:
Kagome probably would beat the crap of Inuyasha if he slipped and called her Kikyo though. She smacks him all the time anyway, at least in this case she would probably feel sorry afterward.
