Bwahahaha!!
My training is completed!! Now, in addition to my previous skills I have learned the power of 2D Renditions!! "Brace your self, Yu-Gi! You've never played 'Yu-Gi-Oh Forum Dueling' like this!"

As for official rules, I wouldn't mind writing them, but I would like suggestions and input. One rule should be: the result of anything is never determined until both players have had their say. E.G. If I attack with a more powerful creature, I need to give my opponent a chance to play a magic card, trip a trap, Etc. Then I get a chance to counter that.... and so forth until a player (on his or her turn to "counter") declares there is nothing for them to do.

Stuff like that. Any suggestions are welcome. This could be a lot of fun!

P.S., anyone else here read the Discworld series of novels? I'm basing my deck on it.

It'll be so much better if this was in chat-room format. So much faster and better. Real-time "forum" yu-gi, that's kinda hard to do.

Well, it wouldn't have to be real-time, though that would be quicker. One advantage to it being in the forum is that people who want to see the match could just open the topic for that match and read what's happened so far. Getting everyone on-line at the same time could be a hassle. Still, perhaps not. This is some of what we have to figure out. Also, the forum matches would be a bit more laid-back. During that last duel I was surfing the net, watching TV, Etc. and just popped on the computer once in a while to see if it was my turn again yet.

I guess both are good and we could write up two near identical rule sets for each. That way we could have both the faster paced and focused ones AND the well thought out leisurely ones... What do you think?

I like the forum based version better. Gives you time to think and not blow your move.

I can't wait.

Here's a question: Will we be going more by the official rules, or more by the anime's rules? There are a lot of differences. The anime's rules would allow for more inventiveness, but could get out of hand. The games rules would be more controlled, but not everyone would find that a good thing.

For instance: would we follow the games "Tribute" rule, which limits the ability to get out high-level monsters, or ignore it like they do in the show? I would be playing for fun, so I think fewer rules would be better, but that's just me.

Here's one other thing: We can't just plow through, so what about this:

Players take turns responding to each event. E.G. "I attack your X with my Y", then wait for the opponent to say, "I activate such and such", then back to the first player to react to that until they're both finished.

Perhaps a referee could be in order to keep the turns and such sorted out... or am I just getting bogged down in unnessesary things?

Bogged down? A bit. It would be just for fun so the fewer the rules the better. I have only seen the show so I'm used to it's rules. Might be good to base the Forum Dueling on the show so more people can play 'cause not everyone has played the card game.

The idea of a referee is a good idea though. Might not work but try it.

This'll be so cool.

usually a turn ends once a player has executed an attack or pulled out a monster, that would be the good way to limit craziness

Actualy, you can play one monster and any number of magic and trap cards (limited only by how many are in your hand) and attack in the same turn. Also note that you draw five cards in the begining and discard if you end up with more than five at the end of your turn.
