It has been almost 2 days so here's my question. What Gainax anime series did Madhouse work on?
Hint, I think : This was released recently by ADV.

Okay, this question comes from both the original version, and the edited dub version, of a classic series: Space Battleship Yamato, aka Star Blazers. VERY SPECIFICALLY, the FIRST season.
Provide the name and rank of the Commanding Officer of BOTH the Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato), and the Argo (Star Blazers). Yes, I know it's the same character, but there WERE changes made in the translation.

sirante87, StreetFuryX, . . . not remotely funny. Read the rules, especially the one about spamming the thread to get extra hits. It takes on even more relevance, as there is no longer a WOT to send this thread to; it could simply get locked, or worse . . . deleted.
Okay, not quite twenty-four hours yet, but no one's provided the correct answer yet. So here comes a second question. Either one will work!
Q1:
This question comes from Omohide Poroporo, aka Only Yesterday.
Early into her vacation in the country, Taeko watches as teenage girl Naoko tries to convince her mother to lend her money for a pair of Pumas ("But Mother, Everyone's wearing them!"). Later on, after Taeko has told Naoko about a similar incident when she was younger (the Audience actually SEES this incident), Naoko privately tells Taeko that she's going to give up on the Pumas. Taeko then responds that maybe there will be a little extra money coming Naoko's way (No, Not THAT; this is a Studio Ghibli film, get your mind out of the gutter!!!!). They seal the deal with a motion that is a clear and unmistakable reference to another film.
Name the film.
HINT: Taeko's vacation in the country takes place in "present-day" 1982.

Okay, third question coming up!!
Q1:
This question comes from the the first Project A-ko.
In some ways, it's great to have a large industrial complex, dedicated to the production of large-scale weaponry, at your disposal. How else can Beiko Daitokuji (aka B-ko) be able to design and manufacture her giant mecha, literally overnight?
However, just because B-ko's a brilliant mecha designer, doesn't mean her designs are always successful. Considering all of her mecha are constructed to defeat Eiko Magami (aka A-ko) in a never-ending struggle to take Shiko Kotobuki (aka C-ko) for her own, you begin to wonder about B-ko's state of mind. (Some people even question B-ko's sanity, by the fact that she WANTS C-KO . . . but I digress)
Take, for example, the MAX 5000. This vehicle transforms into a powerful mecha, compleat w/ drill arms, heat rays, and holographic camouflage capable of displaying multiple copies of itself. During its initial (and, as it turns out, final) run against A-ko (right in front of Graviton High), the MAX 5000 is piloted by one of B-ko's cronies, Ume (early voice role for Megumi Hayashibara!). However, during the attack, Ume notes one VERY CRITICAL design flaw.
Question: What is the design flaw?

Lesson to Remember, Folks. If you're going to have a great/big/huge Mecha, no matter HOW many pilots you may need, . . . MAKE CERTAIN THEY CAN REACH THE CONTROLS!!!! Correct.Ashyukun wrote:When transformed into Mecha-mode (as opposed to its vehicle-form), she can't reach the controls, and A-ko simply has to tap it on the foot (admittedly her 'taps' are capable of taking down buildings) to send it crashing to the ground.
As for the other two questions:
Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers:
The Commanding Officer of the Yamato was Admiral Okita. In the dub version, the Commanding Officer of the Argo was Captain Avatar.
Only Yesterday:
Taeko's left hand was in an elevated position, index finger pointed slightly downwards towards Naoko. Naoko's right hand pointed up to Taeko's hand, index fingers slightly touching. The animators even went so far as to picture both hands with a darkened star field in the background (the scene takes place during the daytime), and a bright light coming from the point where the two hands met.
CLEAR and UNMISTAKABLE reference to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Ashyukun, Take it AWAY!!

Hmmm. It's been a while since I had to think up one of these. I wish I'd been watching more anime recently instead of playing FFTA so much.
OK. I wanted to ask a "Banner of the Stars" question, but my memory and my logic are conflicting on what the appropriate answer is (I have to wonder if it was translated wrong....), so I'll fall back on something I am far more familiar with, Urusei Yatsura.
On numerous occasions in Urusei Yatsura, Lum will whip a random piece of Oni advanced technology (gravity control device, drug detector, etc.) that might be helpful for the situations the crew get into, at least once prompting Mendou to comment on it. Where does Lum typically carry these small technological wonders?
