I think is spotted another Bruce Lee reference on episode #2 that I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, when Spike is talking to the guy in the weapons shop he refers to a nunchaku as a “Way of the Dragon model” Way of the Dragon is an alternative title to Bruce Lee’s 1972 film Return of the Dragon.

A show will suck if it really sucks, regardless of exposure. A high budget commercial spot won't change that. Ever seen a movie trailer and thought that you've just seen the movie, then when you actually have seen the movie, it was totally different than how you thought it would turn out to be?DDramone wrote:what about whenit doesnt get the funding or advertisment it deserves, then blames the TV show for failing?
Sure advertisement can have an effect on how well a show will fare on tv, but it really boils down to the content of it that will make it or break it.
Family Guy is an example. Fox fucked that show up by constantly changing their time slots instead of giving them a fixed schedule, thus confusing the viewers of when the show actually airs on tv. But now the show is being brought back to Fox because of high DVD sales and also because of popular viewing on CT.
Can't say the same for Futurama though. I gotta admit that the Simpsons fanboys ruined that shining glint of hope. They wouldn't admit that Simpsons is going stale and that Futurama was gonna bring something fresh to tv.

Master Shake that was a good pick up on the Bruce Lee reference. You must be a fan of him. I remember that myself but i wasn't sure if it refered to him or not. These are some good pick ups with Stray Dog Strut. It's one of my favorite episodes so it's cool hearing this, actually I'd say it's my 3rd favorite.
I knew I wasn't going to be able to contain myself for too long during a Cowboy Bebop talk without mentioning my favorite episodes and seeing some of what you guys think. I'll keep it short with a top 5
1) Pierrot Le Fou(pretty obvious )
2) Ballad of the Fallen Angels
3) Stray Dog Strut
4) Gateway Shuffle
5) Brain Scratch
I've thought quite a bit about this show and what's great about each ep.
Also just to talk about what everyone else has been mentioning I don't think that TV destroys Cowboy Bebop. There are certainly some differences in a few eps from TV to the DVD, but i just think it's such a great show that either way it's just great to see it.

Here are mine...
1. Ballad of Fallen Angels
2. Pierrot Le Fou (this one blew my mind)
3. The Real Folk Blues
4. Asteroid Blues
5. Jupiter Jazz
Wait... thats 7 episodes! Well, I had to stick Real Folk Blues and Jupiter Jazz in there because I have such a hard time picking between the non 2-part episodes, I would have spent a couple of hours at the computer if I where to figure out my top 5 singular stories...
