box sets vs. Singles
What do you perfer to do? Grab the entire box set or work your wat through a series 1 dvd/vhs at a time?
Are there any advantages to going either way besides getting the series and a (usualy) cool box in one shot or spending money at a slower rate?

Well box sets are good if the anime on certain conditions:
First - brought to America is already in a box set in Japan with English subtitles. Subtitles aren't bad but get confusing after reading paragraphs of info in just a matter of moments.
Second - Some box sets allow more content and can give you more rather than having less.
Third - Cost. Of course box sets are cheaper and easier to maintain. Box sets keep a lot of movies in order and complete (rather than waiting days on end for that certain dvd or vhs tape with the three or four episodes you need to complete your collection). These are advantages
The only problem you'll face with box sets is limitation. Cowboy Bebop for instances made the "Perfect Collection" in limited supply so it was hard to grab hands on one of these box sets. This could be the only way you might have to purchase all the dvds or vhs's separately. Though new series that come to America or are in Japan can be bought separately if you don't want to wait for the series to finish.

I prefer box sets because they are overall cheaper. However, buying a whole boxset on faith is a big leap. Which is why I usually download a couple digisubs to preview the series before buying the whole boxset. Individual DVDs, I find that you spend anywhere from $30-$60 dollars more, depending on where you shop.
(My math may be skewed, but that's approximately it, I believe.)

Well lately, you can do both. The recent shows have been coming with a box and the first DVD (like Rah Xephon, Noir, X TV, etc. etc.).Propyro wrote:What do you perfer to do? Grab the entire box set or work your wat through a series 1 dvd/vhs at a time?

As for shows that are already all out (like Eva, Esca, etc.) depending on how much you like the show I guess> I have a little bit of collector in me so I got for the boxsets. I also like the sturdiness, they're easier to carry and of course...look cooler .

All that plus I find that it's more economical at times to buy the box set..A few series have done box sets..ranma, slayers, magic knight rayearth, hack, berserk, love hina....I have heaps of box sets..best way to buy them imo...

If the Box set is available i usually buy the box set.
All anime i've bought without seeing the fansubs first seem to dissapoint me. (includes Lain, Boogiepop Phantom, Blood the Last Vampire)
and each of them i just bought the whole series straight away.
Box sets look cool, you can rub up against them with your checks in an effort to annoying your friends into a jealous rage. Its harder to do that holding 8 dvds.
Wouldn't mind buying boxs by themselves for my already existing dvds.
is X tv coming out Box Set style aswell. that would be cool, i loved that series.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else
