Anime via local retailers ...
only 2 words come to mind to sum up my frustration ...
COCK MUNCH!
(keep in mind that i'm using canadien money)
i went to two stores that sell dvd's, and only found one decent deal. The first palce was Future shop. God did that ever piss me off ... everything was atleast $35 or more for a single dvd. Cowboy bebop, $45 per disk. Akira special edition, it was almost $64. Escaflowne vol. 1 $40. God it sucked. Well they had princess mononoke, spirited away, kiki's delivery service and casetel in the sky on their own special display rack ... but i forgot to check the prices on those too ... but they were problably really high. Keep inmind that theres a 15% tax on our stuff.
The next palce i wnt was HMV ... that just pissed me right off ... guess hwat i saw sitting in the box set section ... take a wile guess .... the Eva box set i had ordered 7 weeks ago ... it got in 2 days ago ... at that moment i really wanted to hurt someone ... but oh well, i went aorund browsing ... about %90 of the titles there were $39.99 .. which is also pretty expensive. I did however see one good deal, here they had princess mononoke and ninja scroll marked down with thier 2 for $40 deal. And i'll take them up on that deal too ...
the only local place i didn't go to was Comic world, they have an amazing selection, i really can't compare the prices because all the dvd's are on a shelf behind the front desk, but thats where i'm going for my anime ... HMV pissed me off and CW cant be as bad as future shop ...
are retail stores in your area this bad? Oh, almost forgot, while i was in future shop i kept getting dirty looks form people and staff while i was browsing the anime section ... stuck up arrogant bastards.

I probably asked this, but...why don't you just shop online? I find retail WAY too expensive. On average they jack up the prices about 40%. Not that there's anything wrong with that since they need to make a profit too, but too much for me.
Even with the exchange rate, you could get most discs for at least 40% off of those prices.

yea you did ask ... my mom is paranoid about on line shopping ... actualy any thing that involves creditcards, bank acount numbers and the internet scares the shit out of her. My dad had a little credit card stint with some porn sites and my mom thought it was me ... well any ways he got ripped off ... the credit card # was required for "age verifacation" Visa bill comes in .. $200 gone. my mother asks my dad if he did it, he said no, so it was automaticaly my fault. (i'm the only other person who could have any ways) But thankfuly my daad stepped forward adn admited that it was him ... 3 weeks later.dwchang wrote:I probably asked this, but...why don't you just shop online? But i also have no way of paying online. I don't work (yet) so i don't have a steady flow of money. I can't even access my bank account, i don't even have a debit card or any thing. So online shopping is just out of the question for me ... plus my mother is a psychopath who most likely wouldn't approve of me making money orders for this stuff or any thing like that ... so i jsut have to buy from retail stores ... besides some retail stores are pretty cool ...

You could always have a friend order online and pay them back (shrug). I'd hate to pay twice as much as I do now...oh well at least you get stuff period unlike "poor" people.Propyro wrote:yea you did ask ... my mom is paranoid about on line shopping ... actualy any thing that involves creditcards, bank acount numbers and the internet scares the shit out of her. meh ... i guess i could do that ... but i have a whole debt-paranoya thing that pops up in my mind ... which is why i hate making my friends pay for any thing for me ... meh, eventualy i'l be able to do this shit on my own any ways.dwchang wrote: You could always have a friend order online and pay them back (shrug). oh regarding ninja scroll and princess mononoke ... my movie collection has just grown by 2 dvd's ... they cost me roughly $23 each after tax. Which i think is a great price. now compared to the $13.99 for Pm, that adds up to about $22.38 with the exchange rate. and NS is $16.05 and that adds up to $25.68 canadien. Now that will work of teh us dollar is 1.60, but it's problaby higher. So i guess i saved money this time ... if i'm right about the exchange rate and my calculation.

yea i know it's cheaper, but still ... i i'd rather do it my self ... it'sstupid, but it works for me.
But i'm glad that i have socialized health care at least when i get hit by cars i don't have to worry about hospital bills ... i just have to worry about dying in the wating room. By teh way, isn't the british pound worth something like 2 american dollars or something close to that?
