Favorite Genre of Anime?
This is a question spurred on after talking with the other members of MAS Productions. Our convorsation was based on our dvd collections. While going over our collections we noticed that each of us collected a specific genre of anime. Myself I collected comedy (with the exception of Evangelion), PDperfection collected action adventure and Slacker collected darker animes. Even though many animes dab into other genre, many anime can be catagorized in a specific genre (comedy, drama, action, adventure, horror, sci-fi).
My question is this, what genre do you enjoy the most? I understand that many people like some of all but this question is more specific.

Mecha is waht derew me in. Not sure if that would be futuristic or SciFi.
I am heavy into Mecha and Romance
Im not sure if the mecha falls under futuristic or Scifi. I know I like both scifi and futuristic.
For instance I love VanDread, Gunbusters, Gundam, Aura Battler Dunbine, Orguss, Orguss 2, Patlabor and Robotech. I have yet to see EVA or Macross. I love the Mecha and used to be a Battletech fanatic.
I also like Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair, Ghost In The Shell, Battle Angel, Black Magic M-66. Most of these IMHO I am drawn to the technology.

I don't have any specific or overwhelmingly favorite genre preference... but suppose Romance/Kawaii, even stuff that's a bit Ecchi would be among my top favorites. It's quite relaxing, really, after all the harsh realities of life... easy viewing
Coming in second, somewhat less relaxing to watch, would be the weird/minimalistic type of comedy - such as FLCL, DiGi Charat, or Azumanga Daioh.
Third would be not a genre per se, but a just the sort of anime that is serious, depressing and mostly thought-provoking - stuff like X, Eva, Noir, etc.
But of course, except outrightly sick sorts of hentai, I can like virtually any sort of anime out there.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Romance, comedy or overtly kawaii stuff (like Princess Tutu or Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar). Drama and philosophical works (Eva, Lain, Noir) are a secondary consideration.

I like shonen ai. Yaoi, as long as it isn't just a PWP, is okay, but I like it when it focuses more on the relationship aspect than just a bunch of sex scenes with some lame plot thrown in to try and explain everything. Other than that, I like sci fi anime, comedy, darker stuff like Now and Then, Here and There and Grave of the Fireflies. Pretty much, if it has a plot that is believable, characters who I can sympathise with, and decent artwork and animation, then I'll like it.
