Anyone genre of anime particularly depressing?

Post by omniinuyasha85 » Wed Jul 02, 2003 5:00 pm

Mecha titles depress the hell out of me. It's pathetic that in the future, while people are suppose to improve, they go backward and rely more and more on machines.

Many would argue, that is the way to go, why bother doing things yourself when you can build something to do it for you? But that would make ppl no different than those filthy rich celebrities who burn hundred dollar bills as their friends watch just to see their shocked expressions, use fifty dollar bills to wipe their decadent @$$es and twenty bills to roll blunts. They would be completely defeated if their only housemaid left or quit cuz they don't know how to wash dishes or make Instant Noodles.

Abt the only exceptions to my rant on mecha titles as depressants is Gundam Wing and NGE. Gundam Wing just uses machines to talk abt politics so you don't fall asleep and NGE is symbolic, and I love symbolisms.

Machines are about improving efficiency, ie, having the ability to do more things in the same amount of time. The high tech future is often protrayed as bleak because those directors are liberal freaks.

An example is travel. With machines, you can travel father than without.

Apparently, people like urban sprawl, or else you'd see less people congregating around suburbs and cities and more in the countryside. :?

Actually, I love riding my bike around. I gotta invest in a higher quality bike one of these days.

I don't think it's an issue of liking it, but rather that no decent planning models have come along to solve the problem. Portland, OR and Boulder, CO both have tried to limit sprawl to mixed results. Plus, once you have sprawl, how do you you get rid of it?

Its the city planners who don't want sprawl. Most people don't care either way, or actually want to live in an urban setting. People who do care generally move away.

Nice avatar, flammie. As for the adopted topic... most people got to urban areas because that's where everything they have to do (work etc) is. Most people like the countryside, but are still too lazy to do anything to preserve it.

could we get back on topic here?? don't mind the adopted one, but don't forget the original....

my two cents for the adopted: i congregate in the cities cuz I grew up there. if i have enough $$$, i would haul my ass to the suburbs or some place of isolation and chill there the rest of my life.
