"Fruits Basket DVD," or "Urge to kill rising&

Post by Mr Pilkington » Wed Jul 09, 2003 6:39 pm

I picked up the first DVD to Fruits Basket the other day and I must say....
Funimation must die.
I had no clue whom had released it, but surely not them. I didn't see the logo because they put it right where I pick the cases up from to preview them. So now its open and I'm stuck with it. Besides I need the footage. My problem is with this titles Domestic release? First of all the subtitles are royally screwed. If you notice the subs are just the scripts used in the dubbing. Which wouldn't be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that half the time the subs aren't times right and show up when most inappropriate. Also at times they aren’t even remotely right! I'm not fluent, but for the love of God; even I, after years of watching anime, can pick up a few words here and there. It just makes me totally, irately mad. I may, or may not burn this DVD after I'm done with it. Second, the root menu is just too damn plain. Atleast they didn't do a half-bad job on the intro, and just incase you don't care for it you can hear the original just by changing the dialogue. One good point. ONE!!
Funimation must be stopped.

I more a fan of the japanese version myself. I hated that they made Yuki sound more masculine, I enjoyed the fact that he had a feminane voice (becomes an on going joke about his sexuality). I wouldn't be suprises if Garylisk didn't comment on this topic. I think I would have enjoyed the dub more if it were done by Pioneer, but thats just me.

I first saw Fruits Basket as a fansub. I liked it. I don't know any Japanese so i don't know if the dubbings were correct, but it all seemed to make sense. Anyways, my gf got a FB dvd that only had the dub version and we both nearly murdered the speakers. Every voice actor was TOTALY wrong for the part and most of them had NO talent WHAT SO EVER. I don't think I'm going to buy the DVDs and stick to my fansubs for this series. Now, before you flame me, let me say that I do support DVDs and would wrather have them than my other fansubs. If only i had the money!

now that i remembered i read some where that they use the translated subtitles for both dialogue versions for the original DB series. kinda like the Cowboy Bebop dvds Outlaw Star etc. i guess funimation is getting lazy.
