i can tell you what Love Hina is about. but havent seen escaflowne yet

Love Hina is about a boy who makes a promise to a girl when he was about 5 years old. The promise was to go to Tokoyo U together. 20 yrs pass since the promise. Of course the boy, Keitaro losess contact with the girl he made cause she moved. He tries several times to get in to Tokoyo U but all fails. He then pays a visit to his grandma who runs the hinata in. When he gets there she has left to go to take a hot spring tour around the world. He is left in charge of hinata in as the manager. But before he finds that out he gets into a wild goose chase with the girls of the hinata in who want to through the "pervert" out. Eventually he takes over as the manager and the girls eventually accept him except one. There he studies with Naru the brains of the bunch of girls in hopes of getting into Tokoyo U to find his lost love. Dont want to do any spoilers so watch the show!!

THE END.

I got Escaflowne, then.

Escaflowne is about a girl named Hitomi who is in high school and is on the running team. She is also good at telling her friends' futures by way of Tarot cards. One day, she has a vision of a boy holding a sword clad in armor while running and faints. Later that day, while running a "special" race, she see's the boy again, but this time he's really there, and so is a huge dragon. After the boy fights the dragon, he is pulled back to his own world, but so it Hitomi!

Now she's stuck on a world called Gaea, Earth and the moon hang in the sky, and she becomes entangled in an epic battle against an evil empire.

She also becomes entangled in an epic love triangle ;)

One last thing worth mentioning is that battles are often fought in large mechs.. however, the mechs aren't robots, but rather clockwork machines, powered by steam and I supposed, to a small extend, magic. (Some more than others I am thinking). In any case, the name of the show, Escaflowne, is named after tha main mech of this show.

Really a great show.. so much different from Love Hina heh :P

so much different?? you mean REALLY DIFFERENT. Hina is the grandma in Love Hina. though she is only 2 to 3 eps. im guessing thats why they call it that.

Well its also possible that its called Love Hina because the story takes place in Hinata Springs.

I can't say much about Escaflowne, but Garylisk took care of the description. What I can add is that it's my favorite show and pretty widely accepted as an excellent show. It has a little bit of everything and has wide appeal no matter what you like. Great art (highest production cost for a TV series until Bebop), great music (Yoko Kanno), great story, great characters, etc. :-D

I highly recomomend it.

Well, Hina was the lady who was in charge of it right? Therefor the name.

I highly doubt that the anime is named after the grandmother, then again who knows.
