Well, it's time to watch Escaflowne and Xephon now...

Post by the Black Monarch » Wed Jul 16, 2003 3:59 pm

So here I sit, with the first six episodes of Escaflowne, three of the first four episodes of Xephon, and the first episode of Serial Experiments Lain on my computer, and 40-odd bottles of Jolt in my fridge, about to once again experiment with anime other than Evangelion. Oh that reminds me, I still need to get the first four seasons of Inu Yasha back from George.

*takes a red pill and goes down the rabbit hole* WHEEE!

WHOA!

I've played Starcraft nearly since it came out, and in the map editor, the "hero" Goliath is named Allen Schezar. Now I find out that there's a guy in Escaflowne with the same name! WTF?

First six eps of Escaflowne completed. General comments: I like it a hell of a lot more than the fist six episodes of Cowboy Bebop, but not quite as much as the first six of Evangelion. Merle is my favorite character so far, but this may be influenced by my fondness for cats. Hitomi is handling herself remarkably well given the circumstances - no, she's just handling herself well period. I don't see why so many people think of her as "immature" this early in the series. Lord Van is a dumbass and Dilandau is obviously gay. Or a woman pretending to be a man, I'm not sure which. It's kind of strange that these people don't even have gunpowder or electricity but can still build giant fighting robots with Romulan Cloaking Devices(tm). All of the characters look like they got Pinnochio noses and then stuck them in a pencil sharpener. Episode 6 happened to be in English, and I REALLY like the English dub. Call me stupid, but I think all the characters' voices and acting are right on. Hitomi's voice is great, and even Captain Dildo sounds just girlie enough to be confused for a woman at first but just guy enough that he might actually be a male. I'd probably keep watching if it didn't entail spending months downloading the episodes from Kazaa.

The first episode of Serial Experiments Lain is already half as fucked up and creepy as Evangelion was by Episode 24. Ooh, god is in the computer, so let's kill ourselves! Huh? Run that by me again? Definitely must keep watching, if only to find out what the hell is going on.

I guess Xephon is next.

Uh oh... dwchang... I hope you're not planning a rant here about how you don't like the Esca dub - you just did that a day ago

I watched Esca ... if you like it so far ... odds are you'll continue to like it.

Xephon ... well you'll prpobalby like it, i'm only on episode 19 ... and it's gotten pretty interesting.

Lain ... if you like mindfucks and don't mind the "low art quality" then you'll problaby liek this. Double-plus good if your into metaphysics.
