where for art thou, drawing tutorials? HELP!!

Post by Kuchiro » Sat Aug 02, 2003 11:59 pm

Does anyone know of a good "How to draw anime/manga" tutorial website? (and yes, I have been to the OFFICIAL "how to draw manga" website, so don't harp at me for being stupid)

or, does anyone just have any tips on drawing anime/manga? like, say, how you find the style that's right for you?

wow, that sounds almost sane and normal... it must be past my bedtime...

Other than some certain features on a character, drawing anime/manga is pretty much like drawing regular people or a comic book character, all on your own style. Howtodrawmanga.com gives yah some good examples of certain figures, the rest is up to you.

Here's some Tutorial that I've found... scroll down and under the special styles and motifs heading you'll find four different ones.

It's the only one I know of offhand... I'd suggest searching the web for some, I found a good one a long time ago but I think the site is down.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

It's best to know which artists have favorite art you like...

My top tier artists I have a tendency to emulate are:

Keiji Goto [badass at times]
Masamune Shirow [hard and tricky, big poofy hair]

Those two are rare...

My closest style resembles my fav artist: KAZUSHI HAGIWARA!!! [badass...]

My new tech is coming from a new fav artists / director of mine. Hiroaki Gohda [yes, of Please Teacher fame] However, his tech seems quite simple for me, though his body shaping is quite tasty. [more realistic curvy, not anorexic...]

i dont kno any websites for anime sketch techniques. the way i do it though is to just focus on the details and practice. chances are, you know that already, but its how I draw.

knowing a bit on the genre and how to portray it helps(i.e if you're trying to draw horror, learn how to draw simple stuff like a moon in a cloudy sky or the diff shades of black to apply in shadows), but experience is the trump card in drawing good anime sketches. btw, all this is for penciling only.

too lazy to bother with color.
