creating an anime -_-

Post by Hoseki » Tue Aug 26, 2003 6:19 am

just curious, but how do you create an anime?
how do they colour the images, how do they get the colour and the lines on the character look good, how do they get the good effects, like the nice backgrounds and data effect (digimon) and what sort of programs do they use and etc...

Not sure on the programs and junk, the coloring shtuff is cell shading, or adleast most of the time it is. Not really sure how they do that either :D

It would probly be best to do a manga/comicy thing first, dunnos. :)

There are two ways to do it - hand drawn, inked, and painted cell animation (the old way) and all-digital with CGd images and linework usually drawn on a tablet (the new way). Both ways achieve backgrounds and special effects by the use of multiple transparent layers.

Go watch Animation Runner Kuromi-Chan. That'll explain everything, and be extremely funny at the same time! 8)

OK it depends on the animation house :) some like Love hina use pen tablets to do the line work and color with stuff like photoshop.. Macintosh computers is highly liked in this feild.

Some like how they did Lunar Games were hand drawn and scanned in meticulously into the computer to be color filled. And some still use plastic sheets called cells and ink.

Good backgrounds are usually done by hand with paints and accrylics, like in Akira.

just remember your limitations. Each second of time for smooth animation is around 15 frames per second, less it gets choppy.

Films run at 24.4 frames per second while TV it is 29.97 frames( or the common 30 frames per second). this means in one second 30 images have flashed before your eyes. neat huh?
