Live Action "anime": Good or BAD?
So. From what I've heard recently, live action re-makes of anime are becoming popular in the states. My own group of friends is of mixed feelings about this phenomenon(especially with some of the people they would like to cast). I was reading an atricle the other day, on the fact that most anime are sci-fi/fantasy because you can make the effects so spectacular. You can't really use magic in real-life movies, because it ends up looking really fake. The characters in anime can to awesome feats that are imposible to do in real life, and this happens in almost every anime. So, a live action would not be able to show the fans the things that, I believe, are some of the main reasons anime is so popular. Is this good? It offers a new look at the same anime. Plus it means the popularity of anime is growing, right? But then again, live action can totally mutilate an anime. So, live action: good or bad?

I say: depends on the anime. They did a GTO live action i heard was decent, and i have friends that love the Battle Royale live action. The Peach Girl Taiwanese one sucked. I guess it just depends on the live action.
Someone really fucking hates me. If you ever decide to show your face, please, pay me a visit. I’d like to introduce you to several obscene gestures.

There are a few animes that could make great movies but others that just couldn't. DBZ and Eva fall under the catagory of anime that wouldn't transfer well but series like Hellsing could have the possibilty of making a good movie. I guess I can name a few series that I think could make a good movie (as in could transition well and still relate to non anime audiences):
-Armitage
-Banners of the stars
-Berserk
-Gunsmith Cats
-Noir (though if I remember right the anime was based on an old french movie)
-Kenshin OAV
- and of course Hellsing but I already added that
I think it would be hard to make a movie that would make any money if it were based heavily on japanese culture or used anime cliche's such as giant robots and such.

Well I left out the movies since they are already just that . . . movies. Nothing could really be added to the story.Hitori wrote:How about:
Perfect Blue
Anything Lupin
Ghost in the Shell (Unless you were talking about the series)
Dominion Tank Police
Any of the Miyazaki/Ghibli titles!
I wouldn't mind seeing good movies made from those anime...!

I was referring to the OAV not the movie.Hitori wrote:How about Armitage? That's a movie.. or were you refering to the OAV(before it was cut down to make it movie length instead of the separate episodes it was originally meant to be...)?

actually they did a whole live action drama series on TV for GTO, i dont even think they did a movie, im pretty sure its just the show. But the Live action one is completely different from the anime and manga so i disapprove of it greatly. I mean the guy doesnt even wear a white suit, something that would be easy....i mean ok dont dye your hair blonde..atleast wear the suit though --; But yeah, its a whole show...i think they are still airing it there actually o.O But yeah, i dont like live action stuff, just becuase they never stick to how it should be...mainly cuz it'd look stupid if they did but still --;TsumiKi wrote:I say: depends on the anime. I was thinking that .hack//Sign could be remade into a psudo-live-action film where all the real-world scenes were replaced with live action. Like, in the first episode, the audience wouldn't really know that the story is taking place online until they see the eerie ending of that ep. where a real girl is collapsed in front of her computer and her father is calling the ambulance. Since the story mostly takes place in an online world, it wouldn't make much sense to change all to live action. However, .hack//Liminality could be more easily adapted to live action since it takes place entirely in the real world.
