School anime
Okay, what's your favorite anime set in a school, and why?
I think I My Me Strawberry Eggs is an excellent example of this genre because you get to see things from the perspective of both a teacher and a student, and you get to see a good variety of school activities like gym class, field trip, after-school chores, dorm life, visit to the nurse, etc.
Ranma 1/2 is probably the classic school story, although it has surprisingly little time spent in the classrooms - all the action seems to happen either at lunch or in some way that involves the characters escaping from the classroom, usually for either a chase scene, a fight scene, or some combination of the two. And no dorms in this series.
Utena is another good one - it has dorms (several actually, some more normal than others), it has characters studying together, complaining about test scores, etc, but I don't think we ever get to see one teacher. Well, except the one who complains about Utena's uniform, and we don't get to see her teaching anything, just walking down the hall. Really, the school in Utena looks cool but is not described very much at all. Maybe there are more details in the manga?
Yet another one is Cha Cha. This anime is like sailor moon for an even younger audience - it's primary virtue is that its cute, with lots of silly villains (a chalk board eraser?!?) and bad puns.

"Have come to the conclusion that fandom is not a hobby at all but rather a combination non-competitive sport/full-contact tea party. Only, like, the Mad Hatter's tea party, and the Dormouse is totally hitting on the March Hare." - Ins

To Heart, just because it's sweeter than a bag of sugar yet doesn't use any tricks (i.e. fan service) to win you over.
And Azumanga Daioh. Because it's nuts.
And I'm sure I'd like KareKano if I ever saw it...

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

LOL, I thought almost all anime involved school.
My favorites...
KareKano - Excellent story, well up to ep22 anyways, and realistic characters. Yukina Miyazawa is just too cute.
Da Capo - I really like the characters and stories. Miharu is my fav followed by Yoriko
Kanon - Excellent story and IMHO excellent characters. And Im one of the people who loved the ending. Mai and Makoto were my favs.
Boys Be - Loved the story and the characters.
Full Metal Panic Fumoffu - Chidori is a major anime babe and the show is very funny.
Green Green - Very funny if you ignore the san baka's, all the girls are babes, especially Futaba and Sanae. Stories are funny if not bizarre.
Happy Lesson Advance - Very funny and has lots of hot mama's. And Nagatuski. Mina-chan, and the class prez are also darned cute. Favs are Kisaragi and Mina-chan.
Onegai Twins - I like this alot. The show has good humor and tender moments both. Since I havent seen Onegai Teacher all this is new to me. Fvas are Karen and Maiku's sempai (girl with glasses).

I don't watch many where the main plot of the anime takes place inside a school, but some that revolve around or have significant parts in school:
Card Captor Sakura - cutsey, but definitely 'in-school' type anime
Haunted Junction - it's all about the school, and the school spirits. ^"^
Prince of Tennis - not too much 'in-class' scenes
Yu Yu Hakusho - mostly the first and parts of the third season
Eh, I don't watch many 'all about the classes' type anime. I'm more fantasy/action oriented.
