Today's sign of the Apocalypse: FF7-2 and a New Evangelion?!
Granted, I don't subscribe to Newtype (I don't speak Japanese (yet) so its not really worth it [the Japanese version is vastly superior]), and sometimes it seems like I am really the last person in the world to find out about these things. But the hour long film "Advent Children" coming out next year is clearly setting up the most rumored sequel in video game history. A lot of people were introduced to Final Fantasy with Final Fantasy 7, and I remembered making fun of all the retarded speculation that FF8 would be a sequel to FF7 (because they were new and didn't get what Final Fantasy was about back then). We'll Square goes along and makes a bomb of a movie (Spirits Within), and on the verge of bankruptcy merges with the other great RPG company, enix.
When I heard this I expected possibly a new chrono trigger, but not THIS.
When I heard about FF10-2 exactly a year ago, I was ecstatic, because I knew what that really meant; the door had been opened for FF7-2 (or possibly FF6-2, which would also be very awesome). Granted, its not exactly guaranteed that "Advent Children" will lead to a second game, but its kind of hard to not think that at this point (note the URL of the download link ).
Say what you want, but I'm hoping with everything I got. FF7 is one of the most powerful games I've ever played. Feel free to weigh your opinions in on this one, I want to see if anyone else is fired up about this.

As far as the New Evangelion, I was surfing at Amazon and I saw this Newtype:

if that fails then:

I can't tell how old or new it is, but if it is several months old then I am shocked that I haven't seen or heard anything about this yet. If anyone has more information on this I would really like to hear it (it almost sounds like an April Fool's joke).

This is the way I see it. Final Fantasy 7 ended in such a way that it really felt there wasnt much room for a sequel afterwards. The game ends, we see the Powerfactories shut down and abandoned (almost to signify the end of advanced civilation, and the last shot of Final Fantasy 7 takes place 500 years after the game ends. It had a very strong sense of finality, there was no feeling that a sequel was needed to satisfy storyline concerns. However, people have really wanted a sequel because FF7 has some of the best characters, and some of the best gameplay in the series. The way I see it, just jumping up and doing a sequel to FF7 would seem a little disconnected, like the Matrix sequels. However, from what I understand "advent children" is actually supposed to explain a "new evil." Thats the whole purpose of the movie from what I've read. It pretty much seems like a setup for something beyond that if you ask me. Normally, I'd be suspicious, but considering the release of FFX2, and breaking the long standing rule that no FF can have a sequel, I really think this is their goal here.TallonKarrde23 wrote:its pretty old news, advent children that is, and it being just a movie, i dont know if they will make a game from it. If they did you'd already know the ending if you saw the movie --; But if FFX-2 does good then perhaps they will make advent children into FFVII-2...hope not

Actually, I'm guessing that Sephiroth isn't alive. When they show flashes of him its all footage (redone) from the first game. I think they were emphasizing that this new bad guy is a sephiroth clone. Theres a mysterious guy in a wheelchair, who COULD be sephiroth, but I'm not saying theres any hard evidence that he's still alive.TallonKarrde23 wrote:i didnt say you were wrong or anything and i understood your point already. I think its pretty damn homosexual that they are bringing sephiroth back from the dead for the movie though, just seems WAY to damn gay. i mean come on.
Oh and about the spoiler box, don't worry I didn't give anything important away. Besides, its been 7 years, go cry me a river
As far as Eva, heres what the "renewed" eva is reffering to:
"The redone episodes are different versions of episodes 21-24 that were done for the Japanese video market. They add around 15 minutes of extra footage across the 4 episodes that help explain the series more fully and also retouch various scenes. They are available on LD, VHS and DVD in Japan but unavailable in other parts of the world."
Thanks to Ashepard for the info.
