Seven Kingdoms - Should I continue watching

Post by derek_t » Tue Dec 09, 2003 12:22 pm

Last week I saw the first four episodes of the anime "The Seven Kingdoms". Lets just say I was unimpressed. Is this one of those animes where "I know those first 10 are bad but trust me after 11 you will be hooked" or should I have been blown away already in which case I guess I should quit now.

First off, did you make a typo? I don't know of any show called "The Seven Kingdoms." I'm 99% sure you meant "Twelve Kingdoms." No big deal, just wanted to clarify before answering.

I have three discs of this and haven't watched it so can't tell you much, but my friends assure me that it's a great show. From what I know, the first three discs is the first major story arc so I'd say you should give it till the first arc is done.

I for one hope it's as good as people are saying.

Your right its twelve not seven. But that should give you an idea of how disappointing this show was for those first few (4) episodes.

The characters seemed very stupid. So does anyone know does the show get better at a certain point?

Personally, I love Twelve Kingdoms, but if you don't like it from the start, you probably aren't going to get into it later.

Also, I'm pretty sure the director fell so far behind in the middle of the second season that it ended up getting canned without a proper ending. Keep in mind that my Japanese is pretty bad, so that information may be way off base.

Yeah didn't it end around 42 or some other odd number like that (i.e. not a multiple of 13)? I still have optimistic thoughts concerning it and hope you're right :). I'll hopefully find out during my vacation from work :).

12 kingdoms does end on an odd number,(45 episodes?) but the web site says they are just taking a break until the author releases the next novel. When I last looked they are still contracted for 68 episodes. It's in Japanese, but you can find it here: http://www.12kokuki.com/

If that's changed and they've cancelled, I've not heard about it.... but really I hope not. :( I love 12 kingdoms.

Also some nifty translations for a couple of the novels: http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/kf4 ... index.html

I was at Studio Peirot in September and that's what I was told. I'm gonna have to go with the first hand source, as sad as it makes me :(

That is really disappointing. I was really hoping they'd finish up some of the loose ends.... How sad.

Now I haven't seen the show yet (and yet I own three discs :uh oh:), but I have heard really good things and I'm *really* glad to hear this.

I *hate* it when animation companies make random filler episodes instead of waiting patiently for the next manga or book. This in itself tells me these guys are doing it right
