Amine made you spend too much.

Post by Kangrejoman » Tue Jan 13, 2004 12:44 am

Have you ever spend too much Anime stuff before? I mean, spending off your whole money on manga books, DVD's, artbooks, etc.

It happens to me though. This time, I plan not to overdo it too much like today[Last brought: Ai yori Aoshi visual Artbook]. So, what have you spend too much on? What experiences you get from doing this?

I havent really went on a shopping spree for anime, i usually look for bargins like shopping online, etc. But like today, i went out to buy the Oh! My goddess DVD's and i could have easily picked up something else because i had some extra cash left, but i kne i shouldnt. So i was lucky and i stopped myself. I could have gotten the whole trigun collection, or the first season of Naruto. I was this close to buying it too. Man spending can be done so easly on anime, but it take work to be able to spend and guess wat, i dont work ... :(

Bought 6 Gummn Manga at one shot in Borders bookstore.

I also tend to get entire sets at a time...

ie: Lain (the lunchpail set)
Bebop, Evangelion... and so on.

The first time I said "Hmm, I should get a few more Anime to fill out the shelf there" my wife threw stuff at me. Now it just sort of quietly appears :)

Oh, and lets not forget my 13 still Shrinkwraped, out of print, Patlabor The Mobile Police TV VHS tapes that only cost me $2 each. With 5 episodes each on most tapes, that was a heck of a deal. (7 eps on one, that tape weighs a tonne)

Maybe I'm just not stupid when it comes to buying anime. :)

I tend to buy the whole anime series at one time too. I dont like waiting to see the next episode, im just that type of person who likes to watch an anime series straight through, when possible of course.

i tend to only buy when i'm bored and need something to watch. other then that the most i've ever spent was when i bought the ranma 1/2 box sets.
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

I tend to drive local anime sellers crazy by standing in there stores for hours at a time, gawking at anime, telling people why they should or should not buy a series (If they ask of course), and then not buying anything, saying as I walk out "I'll have to download all those later".

Every once and a while I'll go crazy, like spend $200 on Gundam DVDs, or spending up to $50 on mangas at a time.

Yesterday I spent the remainder of my money on one discounted manga (Black Jack volume 1, best $12.50 Iv'e ever spent).

Then I usaly try to get all my money's worth by downloading three times the amount of anime I just spent money on.

Recently, the fascist DVD industry has defeated me.

When I first started out my fandom, I'd only buy either one-disc OVAs or series in already-completed form. My first real anime buy (excluding Akira which doesn't count because even my mother has seen Akira) was the Evangelion box set. My second buy was the Bebop set, and that winter I got Lain as a birthday gift.

It was simpler that way, because then I didn't have to wait and pay volume-by-volume, etc.

Then, this fall, I started doing the whole volume-by-volume thing. Right now I'm following 5 series: Witch Hunter Robin, Haibane Renmei, Last Exile, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, and Full Metal Panic. As far as saving money, I either order online, shop at Best Buy, or wait till a website is having a sale and buy then. It depends on how much cash I have on hand, what my balance is, etc. Since I have a birthday check that's soon to be deposited, I may add one or two more series to that list... basically, I am weak.

As far as conventions are concerned, I need to spend at least 2 hours in a dealer's room before I can even think of what I want to buy.

As far as manga is concerned, usually I'm limited because there are maybe three places to get manga in the area: the local comic shop (no discounts), Barnes and Noble (my dad's Readers Advantage card) and Suncoast (no discounts). Animeniacs.com actually has marked-down manga like you'd never believe (just ignore the fact that they're probably the biggest HK store in the country and you'll be fine), so since I've been considering getting into Chobits I may buy from them.
