Anime and Revolution

Post by -M_X_R- » Tue Mar 02, 2004 11:03 pm

Are there any anime shows that depict any sort of political view or stature of some sort, such as Jin-Roh, and well umm... The Animatrix(in a way i.e. - The Second Reno..) I'm especially looking for any that are similar to Animal Farm or reflect Revolution in any sort of way, more or so that of the Russsian Revolution.., and so fourth... :?

Anime containing political indeavors are few and far between seeing that the target audience for anime is usually between the ages of 12 and 18 (I said usually- I know there are many exeptions). So anything about the real world or real politics wouldn't be a good marketing decision. Most enjoy the unearthly getaways for hobbies, takes their mind off reality for a little bit. I'd like to see some teenagers get home from school and plop in front of the TV to watch their favorite show: "Spike and Vash's incredible Presidential Campaign" Yay~~ In today's episode Spike and Vash uncover the real figurehead of Public Relations and delve into the details of illegal campaign marketing! Yahooo~~~!

Gasaraki has it's fair share.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has some politics and under-the-table dealings between companies and the like. Nothing too complex (no pun intended)

Those are the only two I can think of right now... and I have seen my fair share of anime...

The first two Patlabor movies had political subtexts. The second movie, especially. That one dealt with terrorist attacks and government overreaction.

Also, the Metropolis movie. Maybe Now and Then, Here and There.

Gasaraki. Can be pretty boring, but has lots of political wheelings and dealings. I've been told there's one episode that specifically talks about the economy within the show.

If you want MANGA, you're in somewhat better luck. There's this one series called Eagle that's about a Japanese-American running for President of the USA... I don't believe it has any giant robots, so it MUST have political context!

Also, if you want to see Tokyo destroyed over and over again in the name of a power struggle, the Akira manga. blows the movie away.

Like the Clouds, Like the Wind is an OAV about a revolution in feudal China

It's not much, but I do recall an episode of Noir which at least made allusions to the Russian Revolution and Stalin's repressions (although the episode isn't about those directly).
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The first 8 episodes do take their time, but after that it was smooth sailing.

I enjoyed it so much... <.< ..... >.> .... I have the wallscroll of it >.<

The fact that I got it for so damn cheap when TheRightStuff had it on sale helps me enjoy it more, I think.

There was a short subplot to Metropolis involving a revolution which went south quickly.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab
