Hi, I consider myself a noob-anime fan, my current collection consists of: Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Animatrix and Evangelion: Death & Rebirth. Not very big. I've begun watching the NG: Evangelion series on Scifi via sky and I'm going to buy more films. Basicly I want some advise as to ones to look out for, are there any specific recomendations? I mean series wise I've seen NG:E, Cardcaptors, Pokemon *shudders ^^*, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT. I realy want to widen my horizon but I don't know what to look for so if anyone knows some kick ass anime I should see but haven't yet then please say ^^.

So, you want to diversify your collection a bit, huh?

I've got a lot of suggestions, so I'll just list them by genre:

Comedy
Slayers (action, fantasy)
Martian Successor Nadesico (especially if you've seen Eva)
Trigun (action)
Those Who Hunt Elves (fantasy)

Drama:
Vision of Escaflowne (the movie should be watched after the show, if at all)
Great Teacher Onizuka (has a lot of comedy in it, too)
Cowboy Bebop (film noirish)
.hack//SIGN (kind of slow, though, not for everyone)

Action:
Outlaw Star (western scifi comedy)
Macross (all)
Berserk (medieval action, VERY good)
Rurouni Kenshin (similar to Trigun in mixture of comedy/action/drama)

cool, I'll keep a look out for those. I've herd of Escafloune and Kenshin (Kenshin looked like a comady due to the way I saw it in Sam Farha's JUMP! vid). I've also herd of Hack//SIGN and Cowboy Beebop but I've never realy seen them. The only place I can get these is in HMV and even thats 15 miles away, I don't know anywhere that sells anime styled films or series.

Yu Yu Hakusho - action/romance/comedy/drama - strong characters
Gundam Wing - if you like mecha action, politics, quick angst/drama
Inuyasha - but don't bother watching the entire thing - just bits here and there so you don't burn out on it

You might also go for the outright comedy/fanservice types - Love Hina, FLCL, Excell Saga, none of which I've seen. >.>

If you liked Cardcaptor (though the dub is horrid), you might get the sub version - it's a different anime entirely. Another good shoujo anime would be Magic Knight Rayearth - the second season is particularly interesting.

Oh yeah, I totaly forgot about mech, I have totaly let myself down. I love mech lol... yes that much. Although I have to say I saw an episode of one of the Gundam seires it didn't do much for me. I prefer much more cool-ass looking mechs not those robust icky 80's looking lego toys. Give me a sleek, aerodynamic and well teched up mech anyday! lol.

Cardcaptors was fun, I mean the whole fashion show thing was a bit femmy but the series was alright. Has a nice jouvanility about it.

Oh and uh, shoujo and fanservice?

Gundam Wing has great looking mecha by the second half of the series, and Gundam Seed looks okay, too. The older Gundam sagas were not so nice looking (though people say the stories are better). Gundam Wing is known for being large part eyecandy mecha action. ^.~

Here's some stuff that I highly recommend:

Boogiepop Phantom (does under your "dark plots" nicely)

Slayers (fantasy and comedy; totally awesome)

Record of Lodoss War (more fantasy, and very excellent)

Bastard! (even more fantasy, and humorous as well)

Gasaraki (mecha/action/drama with some fantasy/sci-fi esque parts)

Millenium Actress (drama/romance, with a good amount of humor; my favorite anime movie)

So there's a few for ya.
