Would any video game make a good anime?
I've been thinking about the connection between video games and anime, and I wondered whether any video game would make a good anime. Certainly, I have never seen any good live-action movie based on a video game, but that might be just because the directors and producers were no good.
I think most RPGs, since they tend to have a variable plot line or numerous endings, would not make very good animes because an anime story would only resemble one story out of the game. If, on the other hand, the anime's writer wrote a completely original story, the story would be nothing like the game and the players would all be thinking "We've been robbed!"
Maybe, though, an anime could be based on something like Smash TV, which had no specific plot although it suggested a setup in which a story would be possible. (What would motivate people to risk their lives for a television game show? Maybe if an anime writer could introduce us to the private lives of some of the contestants, we would know.) Of course, The Running Man starring Arnold Schwartzenegger already did something like that, so that's not very original.
On the other hand, The Running Man was set in a rather grim totalitarian future, so if the story was about a happier but also sleazier future in which the gameshow hosts convince people to enter these games voluntarily in order to drive their entertainment ratings through the roof, it might be a pretty good story, not to mention a good way to lampoon "reality shows" and the like.
That's my idea of an anime based on a video game. Do any of you think someone could make a go of it?

well i have always dream that they would make a anime from the lunar series of games. i would love to see alex and luna and the rest of the gang after the whole moon was turned into a pardise. or mabey see all of dynes quest to become dragon master and on the point of rpg's not making good animes because of the strong story line .... i think that is excetly why they would make for great animes the anime could take place befor or even after the game.

I'd love to see Final Fantasy 6, 5, 4, or even 1 in anime form. I think it would work extremely well. Chrono Trigger also would probably work. Other than that I can't think of any.
Look at all my trials and tribulations
Sinking in a gentle pool of wine.
Don't disturb me now, I can see the answers
'Till this evening is this morning, life is fine.

And there was a Chrono Trigger short as well. Didn't do justice to the game at all though.
