Renewal of Evangelion redubbed Evangelion "Platinum Edi

Post by The Eva Monkey » Tue Apr 20, 2004 7:06 pm

Well now.... it seems that ADV has got its hands on Renewal.... and they're releasing it in part as a "Platinum" edition.

http://www.advfilms.com/news/Apr202004R ... vangel.asp

Make no mistake, this IS in fact being adapted from the Renewal set, but it appears that they are repackaging, rather than adapting it.

Frustrated? You bet I am.

More than repackaging, selling it one disc at a time, come on.

I know they want to milk the cash cow, but this is rediculous

I'm excited... and yes, frustrated.

Glad that ADV got this hookup... annoyed it'll be released several years after I bought the old box set. :x

I wish they would stop. Evangelion took the spotlight for a long time after it's premiere in '95/6. Cause it was good, it still is...

But beating it to death like this is just wrong. I am sick of it now. They should stop while they are ahead.

For some reason they don't get it. Maybe there's a new wave of fans they see that we don't. -_- *sigh* I hope to god not. Evangelion should take the backseat now and enjoy the veiw from in back like Akira and many others, before I break it's legs off and beat it into submission.

:? Money grubbing b4st4rds

OH YEAH! and I hope that live action movie NEVER gets made. I hope it bever gets past PRE production. I hope it NEVER AIRS!!! NEVER see's the box office. *(@#^%^%&(#%%$(@&*$()&#*()$^$(#)$^*%+ing jerks are going to totally ruin it.

I don't care WHO does it. It should NEVER happen. Anything they make will be like sucking on your ass to get a taste of your favorite meal again. You can quote me on that too cause I just made it up and I think it's hilarious! I'll have to use it more often from now on.

Settle down.

There are a good number of people still getting into Eva. I know, I see new people on forums, mailing lists, and through my website. There seems to be a new interest in the show, its only been increasing since the movies came out in 2002.

I never said it was a bad thing... although I did imply it for the sole reason that they ask the same questions that everyone else has asked 10 times without bothering to search ANYWHERE but finding a site and going directly to the forums. Yes it is stereotyping them, yes everyone has to start somewhere. I just think they should start by reading what's out there first(you can find more than enough to be a Super Guru without posting on a single forum). I think it's wonderful that people are finding their way into anime and Evangelion.

It has been licensed, it has all the DVD's and two box sets, a Directors Cut, Specials etc. etc.

What I am so fummed about is: You can enjoy Evangelion like everyone else has with what is already out. They need to stop putting out all this stuff that really isn't necessary.

Yeah, maybe my rant was a little rough, but to me, it's more than true. Not just for Evangelion though. Bottom line:

I hate how our society moves moutains only if there is gold underneath. (i.e. Resubbing a whole series that will probably cost more than subbing 4 new ones).

WTH? Resubbing?

I always thought the only way Renewal differed from the original was in the video quality.

Renewal was a video cleanup and audio upgrade to 5.1 sound, if what I've heard is correct.

Details on the Platinum Edition are still sketchy, but AnimeOnDVD is saying that ADV plans to provide all of the details in their panel at SakuraCon on Saturday.

And Rhyevaln, I'm really not sure what you mean by resubbing being more expensive? They have the translation already, so there's no translators to pay, they have the recordings of the voice actors already, so there's no VA's to pay (except their royalties). They only need to remix the English audio to 5.1 (the Renewal masters already providing the Japanese 5.1) and retime the subtitles. Subtitle timing, while tedious, is not an insanely expensive task, and remixing the audio shouldn't be obcenely hard, either, since they've already done it for the Director's Cut DVDs.
