Souls inside the Evas

Post by Daio Kaji » Sat May 01, 2004 8:14 pm

Kenny Valencia's Translation for Eva Cult wrote:A long time ago God created the world, and to populated he created Adam and Lilith (This is the true biblical story which was changed by a priest, whose name I don’t know) but Adam and Lilith didn’t get along very well, they were always fighting. So one day God got angry and exiled Lilith to a deserted island... God then created Eve, she and Adam got along better, but God tested them (The forbidden fruit) and because they failed, God threw them out of Paradise. After some time Adam felt responsible for Lilith exile so he went looking for her in Earth, during the dinosaurs era, but because of a misfortune he collided with Earth... that was the First Impact.

Eons after, Seele found the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’ were this story was told... they looked for Lilith and captured her, then they tried to capture Adam who was in the South Pole, sleeping. The humans not only wanted to capture Adam, they wanted to manipulate him and return him to his embryonic state, with which human kind could forge it’s own destiny. But God did not like the way humans were trying to change their destiny; and to punish mankind God allowed Adam to use his full power on Earth, thus causing the Second Impact... God then left mankind on it’s own...but mankind still pursued the changing of their destiny, so God brought froth His second punishment, which was to empty Gauf’s chamber, because of this everyone born after this date does not posses a soul, which means that neither Shinji, nor Asuka... or any other child born after that date would posses a soul. The only one with a soul is Rei Ayanami, who was given a soul artificially. This is the reason the Evangelions need a soul to operate, a soul to complement the pilot’s incomplete soul. This means that Eva 00 does not have a soul because Rei already has one, this is also why an adult cannot pilot an Eva.
well it's the first time i've heard this explanation of the souls inside the evas, and this one seems to make the most sense, it explains the chamber of Gauf which i used to not understand, also it explains the issue of the soul inside Eva unit 00... there is no soul necessary because Rei was the one pilot with a soul

Also, it explains the deal with Toji and his eva, since Toji is one of the children, he has no soul (chamber of Gauf is empty), so when he became the pilot of Eva unit 03, the Eva itself didn't have a soul, so that's what made it possible for the Angel to invade his Eva and take it over

Kaworu also is able to obtain Eva unit 02's services because Asuka was having problems and her mom's soul was hiding itself because it wasn't being accepted by Asuka

But, the one thing that isn't explained in that passage is that it says that Adults cannot pilot the Evas.. but if Rei can do it because she has a soul, doesn't that mean that adults can also pilot unit 00? or is it because she was the 1st pilot?

Bullocks. Nothing that was said in that quote can be directly proved or implied from Eva. Therefore it no more proves that the children don't have souls than were I to say "the children don't have soul's because they masterbated too often and their sex juice was really soul juice."

Eva will be debated until the end of time, and even then there will be as many explanations as there are people who have seen it.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I like to hear other people opinions; but I don’t think there will ever be any final ‘right’ answer.

i think i would agree to an extent

but the part about the chamber of gauf being empty is believable to me, it makes sense, especially since when Ritsuko destroys the dummy plug cores (rei copies), she says 'the chamber of gauf is empty' and then she destroys the reis

This goes along with saying that rei is the only child with a soul because she was a child born/created after the chamber of gauf was empied, but since we know that she contains a part of Lillith (and some believe a part of Yui as well... me included) it makes sense that Rei's soul would be the only ones in the chamber of gauf (because she has a soul, no matter how incomplete)

So when Ritsuko destroys the clones, there are no more extra souls to use to replace Rei, and everything just seems to fall together... but yeah, i do agree, "there are as many truths as there are people" (kaji/anime2envy said it too... in a way)

BTW I never said sex juice wasn't soul juice

so shinji would be the most lacking in soul... if he had one to begin with... but how does he have sex/soul juice if he has no soul?!...!![passes out from interpretations]

That soul theory is interesting, and it's excellent in that it explains things, but it doesn't really work. If somone is going to say that God punished mankind by allowing Adam to use his full power, you have to explain how Lilith-Adam-Rei had the ability to kill all of humanity and control the fate of mankind - what was that about? Also, as previously stated, if Rei can pilot an Eva with her soul, so can adults with theirs, I'd assume. And although the theory sounds great on paper, it ignores a lot of the vital clues given to us by the series, and makes a lot of problems.

DaioKaji - you said that the clones are extra souls for Rei? But they're just clones, they are not souls, the soul resides in Rei.

I think that's all I have to say on the subject right now.

While it's true that Evangelion will be debated until the end of time, and that no definitive everyone-agrees answer will ever come close to being realized, and that no matter what happens a lot of people will just come up with their own explinations, whatever makes sense to them, there's still a major importance in debate like this.

Let me use an example simpler than EVA, have you seen all of Noir? The final couple of seconds of the show are ambigious and it's impossible to know truly what happened unless their are some interviews I don't know about. So, while the end is upon to interpretation and people will always decide for themselves what happened, there is evidence in the series to suggest what went on. This evidence has been used and a solid conclusion come to. I myself don't subscribe to the explination, but the evidence clearly points in that direction, so that is, in effect, the "truest" answer in existance.

So, while final "right" answers will never be reached, we take the evidence from the series and come to conclusions about the mysteries, and we put them up to test against the other possible theories, and whatever theory is the "truest" becomes accepted. Sometimes a truer theory will arise, sometimes the original theory stays solid. People can always come up to their own conclusions about EVA, but there are conclusions that can logically be made with the series to back them up, these are the truest "right answers."

oh yeah duh, my bad, didn't mean to say souls... i guess that explanation i found just confused me in that aspect, damn :? ...it was mostly the stuff about adam, lillith, and eve stuff in the beginning that i found interesting

debate is good, it lets you know when you're wrong... or at least the least right

So what did you mean, if not souls?

well it's like this
i did mean to say souls, but that line of thought was wrong, and it's a line of thought that i didn't originally have, so if i had remembered what i already knew, i would not have said 'souls' because i would not have even been thinking along those lines

i guess i would have meant to say that 'there are no more extra bodies for Rei, or containers for her soul in other words..

so i guess that puts the chamber of gauf in a different light than what it's suppose to be, if the chamber of gauf is suppose to house souls that are waiting to go to earth to be born (the chamber is indeed empty and possibly for the reason stated at the beginning of this topic) but in Eva, they use it as a holding for Rei's bodies... but of course, maybe that wasn't the Chamber of Gauf anyways, maybe Ritsuko was just making an analogy... that's probably what happened anyway

I never figured out the Chamber of Gauf in Evangelion anyway. But when Ritsuko said it, was she really reffering to the "Reiquaruim"? I haven't seen that particular episode in a very long time, but I think all she says is that the chamber of Gauf is empty, and if I remember correctly she says this before she drains the clones, so I don't think she was talking about the tank, unless I misunderstood what you where going for.

But like I said, I could never figure out what was ment by that. It could be something deep like a refference to mankind's inability to grow any further (uhh probably not that though) but if we take into account who Ritsuko is, I don't think she'd know of Godly matters or anything.
