Does anyone here know much about that really old black & white cowboy show, 'Gunsmoke'? I watched a few episodes of it after finishing watching Trigun, and it felt like the two were the same show! Back when the Japanese had theaters but no films of their own, they watched American cowboy films. I'm sure that this influenced many young Japanese into producing cowboy anime many years later...including Trigun!
I've been watching the 'Westerns Channel' for some time now, and I keep on catching similarities between Gunsmoke and Trigun. For one thing, the name of the planet in Trigun is 'Gunsmoke' - I'm sure that's a homage. Miss Kitty and Dill from DS have the same sort of relationship that Vash and Meryl had in Trigun. It's hard to list similarities - It's more of a 'feel' that I get when I watch.
So, I was wondering - does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does anyone here who has watched old cowboy movies feel the same way as me?

I've seen a few things (apart of an eposide) from both, but other then gun carring men in a western style shoot out, I don't see any thing in common.
