If getting hooked counts, then yes. Vampire Hunter D did it.

Eva did.

The whole theme throughout it about people... interacting with them and such. I was always exactly like shinji, and Eva helped me realize that I need more interaction with people. While it's still difficult, I've been working at it for years now, and have come a pretty good ways, and I think I would probably be a lot worse off had I never seen it. It really opened my eyes.

I'll bet it opened your eyes to fanservice too, eh Zarx? Or was that something else?

That's pretty inspiring, Zarxrax. In my case, various animes with very free-spirited characters (Ed in Cowboy Bebop comes to mind) made me realize that I would have more fun if I was more free-spirited. So I'm trying.

hmmm. dunno if this topic really belongs in this part of the forum. But any hoo, to answer your question.

In a sense it did for me. I was in an awful depression funk before I watched anime. I had some rough transitions during late middle school and freshman year. If I hadn't discovered anime I probably would still be depressed. Hell, I'd probably belong to cult.

It gave me something to do other than mope around my house and being anti-social.

kinda similar thing with me. i was similar to shiji in so many ways it was scary. i allways wanted to get close to people yet i was afraid that they'll hurt me, so i allways backed off. i thought that everyone hated me, so whenever i someome tried geting close to me i'd allways back off. my view of the world was prety fucked up. actualy, i was prety much in a constant state of depresion for about 4 years. sure i was happy at times, but i was depresed alot more. evangelion was in ways, a reflection of how i was and what i was feeling. it kinda helped wake me up. though it wasnt till some freinds got me a "queer eye for the straight guy" type makover early this year. actualy they didnt know about my whole depresion thing at all, they just did it for fun and cause i allways looked scruffy.

what evangelion changed more about me though was my beliefes on religion truths in this world. im the type of person that loves philosophical stuff, and before watching evangelion i was realy religios. after evangelion, i realy started thinging alot more about things like god, religion, life and all that, and it realy opened up my mind alot

Grave of the Fireflies is one of several things that helped push my understanding of war further than an intellectial 'in X year Y happened' level. The way history is taught, at least in America, it's entirely to easy to learn all about major wars without once thinking about what it actually must have been like.

OTOH I'm not a diehard anti-war person now so it's questionable on how life changing this actually is.

The only other anime to change my life was Ranma 1/2. It taught me that it's possible to jump around on roofs and do other cool stunts like that. Later on the hospital bills taught me that Takahashi peddles lies.

Well lets see pretty much The vision of escaflowne, Rahxephon, cuz it showed me that you can do anything even if you dont like to kill or crap like that. i mean look at ayato he didnt like the situation he was in but he lived it out, he had to accept who he was, and then hitomi kanzaki she didnt feel like she belonged in Gaia but she also had to accept the fact that she would never see her friends or parents but she does you see. so from watchong those animes they've helped me see that life can mean much more if you live it out one day at a time. Because friday morning around i guess like 2:00 clock i was at my gradnight and i got to experiance life for the very first time it felt great to be alive, and it felt great just to dance with cute girls if you know what i mean :D

Eva changed me. I, too, was a Shinji. Not only was my personality changed (not always for the better... ), my views on life DRASTICALLY changed. It wasn't the only anime that changed me, though. I've got quite a list, including non-anime (I had what I call Squall Syndrome...FFVIII for those who don't know).

I have a feeling Eva is gonna be mentioned a lot...for good reason.
