Is Anime Reaching A New Level Of Reality
My anime people's, anime can be the greatest fantasy or the most realistic thing in the world. I see some anime/manga as a new step in my life because many of the anime's/manga's out there are starting to deal more and more with the real world around us I would just like to know what other people think. So please anime people's tell what anime is to you, and how it effects the life around you.
Peace

First of all, there IS plenty of anime that is rather far from fantastic (by that, I mean fantasy), and if you can't find any, you just aren't looking.
What would the point be, though?
Animation is one of the best ways to portray fantasy. If someone wanted to do something realistic, they could just use real people. That's not to say that the idea of realistic anime is bad. Millenium Actress was written as though it was going to be live action, then they animated it.
For the most part though, anime is used to tell stories. Most people that draw the anime are sort of romantics, and throw the flare and allure of fantasy everywhere (this also includes sci-fi).
I've completely lost my train of thought and can't finish this.

Anime at the moment has many shows with more chracter depth and emotional growth than most of the TV that I've seen. Movies, are also pretty much in this category, but I don't necessarily believe that it's a new phenomenon.
Many of the older anime are just as good, if you use Kiki's delivery service as an example: it is just the simple story of a girl, and how she learns her way in the world. Yet, the character interactions are very beleivable, and for the most part charming.
No broken family, no saving the world, no hidden deep dark secrets, just the story of a girl.
If you want quality, you have new shows like macross zero pushing the envelope. You can freeze virtually any frame of the CG and it looks flawless.
