It's practically your "high school girl gets transported to another world and meets people" type of thing (someone in the Anime Club is like Escaflowne which I SERIOUSLY doubt
) only this time the female protagonist has lots of angst and cries quite of bit. But later on she develops skills to fight demons and very soon fights her "female rival." I've only seen the first five episodes, and I wouldn't mind watching more of it.

I have only seen the first arc and enjoy the show quite a bit
Stupid Suncoast saw that I was purchasing the different volumes of the series and moved much of the stock that I had not yet purchased from the store, so I have not yet gotten into the other arcs.
The story was written several years ago and the anime is an adaptation of the novels. The novels won a great amount of acclaim in Japan with many people calling it their "Chronicals of Narnia" or "Lord of the Rings". The lore of the series is steeped in how the kingdoms work, the people, its histories... there is a great amount of rich and lush detail here.
If you are even a casual fantasy fan, I would not hesitate to pick up this series. It is very well done and hasn't disappointed me so far. It also has the rare distinction of being one of the few series quickly rushed from Japanese television to American DVD shelves. I think that the series was still playing when the first DVDs hit over here.
