Too many damn Gundams!

Post by TheImmortal » Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:27 pm

Why have so many Gundam series been made? I have only got to see a few of them cause the rest look stupid. Seriously you would think after the 10th series they would give up. The only series i have wanted to see sicne the original is gundam wing is it good?

Full series listing eh? Here goes...

Universal Century timeline:
0079:
Mobile Suit Gundam (original, series and compilation movies)
Gundam: the 08th MS Team (OVA and one side-movie)
Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket (OVA)
0083
Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories (OVA)
Gundam 0083: Last Blitz of Zeon (Movie...retelling of Stardust)
0087
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (series...upcoming movie trilogy)
0088-9
Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam (series)
0093
Gundam: Char's Counterattack (movie)
0121
Gundam F91 (movie)
0193
Victory Gundam (series)

Future Century Timeline:
Mobile Fighter G Gundam (series)

After Colony Timeline:
New Mobile Report Gundam Wing (series)
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (OVA/movie)

After War:
Gundam X (series)

Correct Century:
Turn A Gundam (series and two compilation movies)

Cosmic Era:
Gundam SEED (series)
Gundam SEED: Destiny (series, coming soon)

As for considering Wing...personally...gonna recommend against that...
Sure...the animation looks nice, but beyond that, the story's pretty bland...the characters are, for the most part, one dimensional, and many of the fights are so painfully one-sided you could watch the series on fast-forward and really miss very little...

As for giving up?

Well...if it ain't broke, don't fix it...and besides, they've actually done a pretty good job keeping fresh so far (...well...Ok...maybe not with SEED, but otherwise)

If you're looking for one worth seeing, I'd recommend holding out a few more months till Bandai releases the Zeta boxset

Just once I'd like to see a Gundam series where the Gundams aren't the new, high tech, war winning weapons. I'd like to see them as the obsolete mechs ready to be phased out. Weapons that count more on the pilots skill more then the super tech of the machine.

Nah, it's only that way until they get the Zero System, or whatever it was called(haven't seen it in a while). Then its back to being super weapons.

Turn A Gundam is based on old mechs.

Why so many series? Well it's that popular, that and it's been going since 1979 :D

I knew there were lots of older Gundam series, but I didn't realize there were THAT many...

I'm a Gundam newbie - I've only seen Gundam Wing and SEED. I haven't seen all of SEED yet, but I've noticed that it puts a lot of emphasis on people (particularly the kids) and how the war is affecting them as opposed to Wing, which had a lot of political stuff going on and was a pain in the ass to follow at times.

I like SEED, though lately Kira's seriously begun to piss me off....

I liked the soilder's eye view of 08th MS Team the best. I liked all the political flip flopping of Gundam Wing, though I felt the end of...

I've tried watching Gundam Seed, but I missed a bunch of it so now when I try to watch I'm more or less lost to what's going on. Lastly I felt G-Gundam was an interesting turn on the series. And that about covers all the Gundam shows I've seen.
