here's the description from animenfo.com
R. O. D (Read or Die) is about a substitute teacher, named Yomiko Readman (codename: The Paper). Her house is filled with books. When she's not teaching, she spends her free time searching for more books to fill her collection. This must sound pretty boring, but really, Yomiko is a secret agent for the Royal British Library's Division of Special Operations. After buying her newest addition to her book collection, she ran into a giant cricket and old man who try to steal the book. Her organization assigns her a new partner and she is able to get the second volume of the rare book. She is not to happy that she has to quit her substituting job, but she is ready for the new assignment.

The action is prob the best your likely to see short of a theatrical production. *thumbs way up*
Story: I haven't seen it in probably a year, but it's a very clever way of facilitating said action. You have a secret British Agency fighting against some terrorist type group of superhuman-clone-historical villians. It all revolves around both groups seeking rare texts around the world that all combine into some valuable infomation. "Cleanse the world" type stuff.
There are quite a few twists, and it really is quite enjoyable to watch. If you see the DVD in stores, buy it.

Peh, I don't know anything about this 'League of Gentlemen' (unless you're referring to a late-70's dance band that featured Robert Fripp on guitar, of all people), but I can say ROD was well worth my time, for the most part.RemainderAvalon wrote:no offense but, league of extrordinary gentlemen wasn't all that great. if read or die is even slightly like it, i think i'll pass on it.
It has some good action. It has some good-looking female characters. It has various cool powers associated with paper, and the US president pissing his pants (repeatedly!). It also has references to various historical famous people, and possibly the last appearance of the now-historic World Trade Centre in anime. And books, lots of books.
The only thing that irked me slightly is that they never explained that book or its' value very well in overt terms. I guess the TV series/manga would've done it justice.
Neways, that DVD's more than worth the price of admission, I think
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
