Post by angelx03 » Sat Nov 06, 2004 6:21 pm

Just a reminder that Fullmetal Alchemist will premiere TONIGHT at 12:00 AM and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex at 12:30 AM. So if you can't stay up this late, don't forget to set your VCRs, Tivos, or any TV recording devices! :D

I'm waiting. Until then, I'll be working on an FMA AMV. I just wanna watch the FMA episode to see how crapy the dub is.

I haven't seen either of these anime's so I'm excited. I gotta get the 1996 G.I.T.S. movie soon.

I've got the first disc of GITS. I'll probably sleep through that one.

The FMA dub isn't all that good. The guy who does Ed's voice is the same guy that did You's in Shaman King, because of this he doesn't sound um... "chibi" enough I guess you could say. And I think they overdid the echo for Al's voice through the armor. Overall I prefer the sub to the dub in this case.

What the...? :?

The VA who does Ed's voice in Fullmetal Alchemist is Vic Mignogna who did quite a number of roles in some ADV titles (his voice of Kurz Webber in Full Metal Panic seriously rocks). The one who did Yoh's voice in Shaman King is Sebastian Arcelus

Ah, OK. I saw some clips and the guy doing it sounded a lot like You. Anyways, the rest of what I said still applies.

I always find it funny when people talk about how much dubs suck... b/c they dont' bother me at all....(usually i watch the eps both in english and japanese on dvd)

I won't be able to watch FMA on adult swim b/c I don't have CN.... I'll just wait for the dvds then.

Ok, I've just finished watching both of them. For Fullmetal Alchemist, the dubbing was actually pretty good; I can tell that Vic is having fun with his role of Edward Elric. The only thing that bothered me is the VA Aaron Dismuke who played Alphonse Elric. He practically got the right tone (because he's really a kid doing the voice), but the acting seemed pretty stiff. Hopefully he'll improve over time. Since it's the first episode, there's obviously no opening sequence, but for the ending sequence, they played "Ready Steady Go" by L'Arc-en-Ciel.

Now for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the dubbing by Animaze (who also dubbed Cowboy Bebop) is, as usual, excellent; there's not much to complain about the VAs since they fitted their roles pretty well. And what I'm happy is that Adult Swim played the entire opening sequence which unbelievably rocked! :D

Personally, I didn't think the dub was that bad. Al sounded a little bit young to be 14, in my opinion (but hell, I have a guy in my class that looks and sounds like he hasn't hit puberty yet. Seriously  he looks like he's twelve and he's a senior).
But then again he really can't age or mature without a real body so, it would make sense as to why his voice hasn't changed (refering to Al, not the mini-midget in my class).
