I'll cut to the point. Air Master, Interlude, and Slam Dunk has been licensed!

All I have to say, damn! It's about time Slam Dunk gets licensed.

WHOA

About time indeed. Frankly, I never expected it to, but I'm glad it did. The other question is, how do they distribute such a long show effectively? Let's hope they do find a way that doesn't cost too darn much
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

While I'm not really interested in any of the three shows just announced, I'm certainly curious as to how far this "agreement" with Toei extends. Will future Toei shows be Geneon's to license, or at least have right of first refusal? What about catalog titles? (Sailor Moon and the Air movie are two Toei projects I'm particularly interested in...)

With respect to Sailor Moon, since Geneon has released Sailor Moon S and SuperS, along with the movies, will that license get renewed, with the potential for for Classic and R (formerly ADV sublicenses through DiC), and (dare Moonies hope?) Stars?

I imagine that an agreement like this would mean that Geneon has a lock (if they choose) on the Toei catalogue. I'm personally anticipating the Re:Cutey Honey OVA series that Anno directed, just from what i've seen of it (a preview at the Devilman live action movie which was also a Toei property, and an AMV segment).

Toei didn't renew the Sailor Moon licences because they want to push the live-action series (PGSM) instead of the anime. While this deal could lead to new life for Sailor Moon in the US, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I also believe Toei is behind the One Piece movies, but I could be (and probably am) wrong.

Hmm, wouldn't have thought Interlude would get licensed so quickly (or at all, really). Seems like an odd choice, but it's nice to see a few surprises here and there.

Looks like we have to put the licensing speculations behind. :(

Yipee! Slam Dunk! I don't have to buy bootlegs! (And I was fianlly about to.) I agree it's about time. It's a series I love. It's been out so long I didn't think anybody would licence it. In my opinion, it would also be a series that can easily be adapted for TV.

Though, Slam Dunk takes the Dragonball Z type fight to new levels. You actually have a game clock to compare against. It takes sometimes 2 whole episodes to cover the last 30 seconds of a game.

I think the liscensing of Slam Dunk can be attributed to the success of the recent Viz sports manga titles (Hikaru no Go :x, Whistle and Prince of Tennis). I say this because the Slam Dunk manga has been available for a few years now and there was no word of the anime getting picked up until now. Anyway, I'm just glad it's finally coming to the U.S.

About Sailor Moon, although I'm not a fan of the series anymore, I still think it's a shame how we're getting the short end of the stick on this series. It's like Toei is trying to deny the fact that they made Sailor Moon, with how they've handled the ADV Films sub releases. And since we still haven't seen a U.S. release for Sailor Stars, I don't think we ever will.
Probably too busy to be here right now.
