When the story stops making sence (confusing anime)
I was watching Jin-roh last night, and by the end of it I had a strange feeling. I felt that thier was some higher level of emotion that I was supose to feel, that I was supose to cry, be shoked or feel something as strong (I'm emotional, I cried in the "congradulations" bit at the end of nge). But I just felt confused, because I didnt understand the story, and thierfor I couldnt realy get why the characters were feeling the way they did. I just felt that mabey a few scenes were missing, which make it make more sence. I didnt have that emotional conection. it kinda sucked because I realy felt that I should have felt something more than just confusion.
Does anyone els ever feel like this about some anime? Akira is an obvios example because too much of the story from the manga was left out. Evangelion, possibly. Personaly I enjoyed it immensly from an emotional point of view, and didnt realise that I never understood it properly till the fourth time I saw the series. Similar thing with Boogiepop Phantom and se:Lain, except I enjoyed the philosophy in them, despite not understanding the story too well the first and second time around.

All the time during the series. Though I normally have a good idea by the end of the series, when they usually tie everything together. I have to say, when that moment comes it's sort of like an epiphany. And it's one of the reasons I like anime as much as I do. Any loose ends at that point can be taken care of by trips to the various fansites and treads here on the .org. That was my expirence with Eva anyway. Otherwise I just do like you, and pick up more of the story on subsequent viewings.

To be honest, I like when this happens - as long as it doesn't get in the way of the message itself, I don't mind spending a lot of time and mental effort trying to figure out what happened. I mean, hell, I'm still figuring out Monster for myself, and it's been 5 months since I read the entire manga.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

ermm... I haven't seen any anime of such, but Xenogears is that way. I've played it and it's hard to figure out who's the real antagonist, who's playing who for fools, and what the heck is going on. It's quite fun.
I personally believe that this confusion emplaces an underlying sense of mystery. But since I'd be a newb here, I really don't believe my opinions would count for much.

Everybody dies eventually, don't take it personally when you do.
