His and Her Circumstances

Post by longview606 » Mon Jan 10, 2005 8:58 pm

I am tempted to buy this series but I wanted to know if it is worth buying. I realize this is fully opinion so instead of asking you to to say "IT ARE DE AWESOMEZZZ" or "IT SUXXORZ! COLD TOES!" I want to know what other anime it is like and maybe some reasons why I would like it and why I would not. Thanks in advance.

Do you like romance and slapstick comedy? Do you like Gainax's style? Do you like it when the art and in many cases, mood, changes every 30 seconds (which I really loved, myself)?
And can you accept the fact that it has no real ending as such?

If yes, then get it. At the cost it usually goes for, it's 100% money well-spent.
One of my top personal favorites.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

It is a classic love story with a lot of imagery that is reminescent of Calvin and Hobbes. It was directed by Hideaki Anno, the same guy who directed Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, and the new Cutie Honey movie and series. It is little like them, but it is well thought out and does not fit into the mold for the genre.

I liked it!! :D But that is just me.

Its a wonderful, beautiful little series. Its a romance, but its got enough comedy to make it enjoyable to anyone. Its also very unusual, the direction, still images, and other additions make it very visually appealing. GREAT soundtrack too.

The only thing i would say is you can kind of view the last 2 episodes of the series, as they were initially written as part of a 2nd series (from the manga) that never got animated.

All in all though, VERY worth it.

Well, it's a high school romance/drama/comedy series, based on the manga by Masami Tsuda (they've now released up to volume 13 stateside; the past four or five volumes contain material that occurs after the end of the anime series), produced/directed/etc. by GAINAX, and animated by JC Staff.

You might like it if you like unpredictable comedy and psycho-trauma-drama à la Anno.
You might not like it if you can't stand series that don't conclude well (because Kare Kano doesn't conclude at all).

Though I have never seen it myself, I hear the animated Kare Kano is superbly done artistic wise.

Thus far I've only read the manga which I would recommend to those who enjoy romance on a more realistic scale as opposed to fantasy based. So, if I were to compare, it's not like Love Hina which has a lot of fantasy mixed with romance. Kare Kano has more sentimental and emotional appeal, like Hot Gimmick but less of a soap opera.

Ok, now that I have conformation that it is good, I need to find somewhere that sells it. My mom will kill me if she finds I am ordering even more anime online. Sad, isnt it, that an 18 yr old is afraid of his parents getting mad at him for spending money.

I've bought from Crazy Prize before, and I've always gotten just what I ordered. Well, except when I ordered this same box set; I got my 5 DVDs in their proper cases, but not the box. But who cares! It's the whole 26-episode series for only $55! And it's a totally official R1, no bootleg!
