One Piece 6th Movie Mini-Review

Post by dokool » Mon Mar 21, 2005 7:44 am

This afternoon I went out and saw One Piece: Omatsuri Danshaku to Himitsu no Shima.

The plot revolves around Luffy et al. being invited to Matsuri Island for a festival of some sort. Of course there's hidden intrigue, a group of undead plant-pirates, Chopper turning into a giant were-beast, and so on.

As the OP fans may have heard (or seen from trailers), they use a new art style for this movie. I say this with no bias towards OP, even though I've only seen a handful of eps and AMVs: it sucks (the art, that is). It's hard to describe, but it's definately more minimalist and doesn't give nearly as much character detail, and felt kinda lazy in a way.

The movie itself was decent, but then again perhaps I have to be more of an OP fan to appriciate it. Considering I'd have given Naruto a 3.5/5, I'd give this a 2.5/5. Okay story, some funny moments, but the new art style took a lot away for me.
